Mansfield Beach, auction. Don't know what happened. I was looking at the listing and ... the next thing I knew, I bought it.

Is there really a big difference in sound quality between the VP 180 and the VP 150?

The difference between the VP160 and VP150 is huge. I can only imagine how much better the VP180 is.

Could this be a case of drunk purchasing?

When i was in the military, some of the guys would get the craziest things.. One guy drunk bought a 300$ flashlight off of amazon...

Joe is on the right track. I would say there is no comparison between the 150 and 180, there is such a large difference between the two speakers. I cant imagine anyone not being happy with a 180 after having a 150....

My brother-in-law (unlike me) is a total opera fan. He thought there was a 100% improvement when I went from the VP150 to the VP180. Every time he comes over he still babbles about it. Yes, it's good, really good. You are going to love it.

But that doesn't last too terribly long, unless something goes horribly wrong and then, and only then, it could last for more than 4 hours.

Oh my gosh, but the box is huge. I haven't opened it yet, but the box indicates M80. Cardboard is pretty beat up.

I'll unpack and inspect it in a few hours and report back.

The VP180 is the size of an M80. It is a MONSTER box.

EDIT: Oh crap, now Monster Cable Products Inc will be suing me for using their name to reference a box...

It's HUGE, Mr. Spoiler.

I unpacked it. Looks great. I'm waiting for a friend to help me get this fridge sized center channel upstairs to the office system.

It's beautiful. I'll post some pictures in a few minutes.

I miss the Double boxing system that Axiom use to use.. Those Boxes seemed to hold up to the abuse FedEx put them through much better....

This double boxing method worked. I was pretty sure I'd find substantial damage when I saw the condition of the outer box.

Here are some pictures of the Michaura M665, very similar to the M60 - same 6.5" drivers, but the titanium tweeter is the 0.75" from the old M2. Almost identical driver kit to the M60.

[img:center][/img]

Here is a picture of the M665. The hex shape makes for an incredibly solid cabinet structure. Sound quality is beautiful. Finish is the same, but the picture shot in the dark shows up dull.

Oh my Gosh!

Just set the monster up. Played the THX intro from Cave of the Crystal Skulls (DVD). Mind blowing. Blends perfectly with the M60 like Michaura M665s with supertweeters, PDQ1500 15" Dahlquist subwoofer, and a pair of Mission 77DS back surround speakers.

If you have this disc and haven't listened to the THX intro for a while, do yourselves a favor and set your Axioms a blazing.

Wow.

BTW cabinet arrived in perfect cosmetic condition. I haven't taken off the speaker grill yet, but that's how it'll roll.

Very nice.

Did you already know it would fit between the TV stand legs, or was it one of those "high risk installations" ?

I love this set up. Ah Socketman, the Michaura Mystery. This fella in Massachusetts contracted with Axiom to build a line of speakers, the M55, the M66 and the M665.

The smaller speaker adjacent to the headboard is the M55, two 5.25" Axiom drivers and the Axiom 0.75" titanium tweeter. (Very much like the M22) The cabinets are incredibly solid and inert hex shaped units. These speakers have wonderful sound quality. They are perfect matches with a 5 wpc SET tube amp. Very easy to drive. I upgraded mine with Jensen paper oil capacitors and Caddock resistors.

The speaker under the window is a Michaura M66, two Axiom 6.5" drivers, sort of like the M50. I had a pair of M50s and for some reason, these M66s sound orders of magnitude better than the M50ti. These speakers also are perfectly matched to a low output SET tube amp.

All these speakers have finishes just like the glossy rosewood or was it cherry which was discontinued in the Axiom lineup.

I think Axiom should release a line of speakers using the hex shaped cabinets. They are not only beautiful, but they sound GOOD.

I also have and had a bunch of Axiom speakers - M50s, M22, M3s, M2s, QS8s, VP150, and now the VP180.

Oh yes, the metal thingies. There was a marine surplus warehouse in Newport Beach. They had solid bronze drive shafts ~ 5" diameter, and some solid brass rods I think 2.5" diameter. I had them cut some huge hockey pucks for me, polished them up and glued some red felt to one side and red on the other. I use them to tame disturbing quantum vibrations from my speakers and sub woofers. Mainly, I just love the way they look.

I measured before I ordered. It would have been too embarrassing to end up with a huge center channel speaker with no where to put it.
