Are any measurements (like the nice NRC charts on speakermeasurements.com) available for the VP100 or VP150?

Some background. I'm hoping to purchase an M22ti/QS8 system soon. The real question in my mind is to choose between the VP100, VP150, or M22 for the center. I have plenty of space above and behind the TV, and right now the left and right speakers are mounted on the wall and on top of the equipment cabinet, respectively, resulting in all three being at close to the same height. (I realize that the one mounted on the wall is blocking the rear port, but I'm reluctant to get stands because that would require moving furniture and I am worried about the cats knocking it over.)

With my current (rather bad) system, I'm very sensitive as the sounds shifts between speakers. This may just be an indication of the current speakers' quality, but it makes me concerned about having as similar speakers as possible across the front.

Since I can't audition all three, I'd like to be able to compare them as much as possible with numbers. The different +-3 ranges concern me, as well as some comments in the discussion forums that some people notice timbre differences.

So, are any more detailed measurements of the VP100 and VP150 available?

I'm also considering ordering both a VP100 and extra M22 with the plan of sending one back.

Thanks,
Bruce

i have never seen any

however, i can tell you that the VP150 is a better speaker than the VP100 - enough that it's worth the extra cash.

I remember once trying an m22 as a center, it was good but i prefered the vp150

I am currently using the VP150 with a pair of M22s, and I feel they fit together (sonically) flawlessly. I cannot speak to the VP100's fit with the 22s because I've never heard the 100. Nor have I ever heard a 22 in the center channel position. I'm sure it would work OK, but the 150 and 100 are designed to be center channel speakers.

I had the M22s with a VP100. There was nothing wrong at all with the speaker. Movement from the left m22 to the right m22 across the VP100 great. I never noticed a change in tone.
However, I did upgrade to the VP150. 50% so that I would not have the 'what if' factor over my head later and 50% to get a broader soundstage. My studio is anything but conducive to proper speaker placement so anything that adds to placement flexibility is A+ for me. As far as sound shifts with the M22s goes, it's perfect with nary a tonal change.
It has also been noted (correctly imho) that the VP100 suffers only in comparison to the VP150.

Hello Bruce,

No, there are no NRC charts of the VP100 or VP150 available, however the timbral match between the VP 100, VP150, and M22 (as well as with the M80 and M60) is very close. In this month's Axiom AudioFile newsletter (about to appear), there is a piece I wrote documenting how center-channel location and boundaries can sometimes introduce tonal differences that may be quite audible.

I'd say that in 95% of installations, the tonal blend between either center speaker and the M22ti's is very consistent with music, vocals, or movie dialog, and the M22 used as a center offers no advantages over the VP100.

In my tests, the VP150 plays cleanly at louder levels, and is audibly a little smoother and more authoritative than the VP100. It has much higher power handling for larger than average (2000 cu ft) rooms.

Alan,
Thanks for the advice. I still wish there were more charts available for speakers in general, especially for online-only speakers, but I decided that if the VP150 is the best center channel, I would get that. It's for HT, so that's the most important. Anyway, I can always compare it with one of the M22s if I don't believe it's the best once I get it.

Thanks,
Bruce
