Hey there! I was wondering if anyone was familiar with Bluetooth technology. I've been starting to hear the term or name quite often. Does it mainly apply to cell phones?? I recently read about that new V710 from Motorola...the one with the mp3 player, 1.2 mega camera, removable memory, etc...anyway, it's "bluetooth enabled." Not sure what that precisely entails. Hmm, oh here www.hellomoto.com/producer saw details on it here. Heh heh, I'm glad I put off upgrading my cell if this is the norm of what's in store.

Wow, is this ever off topic!
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology. It means that you can communicate with other bluetooth enabled devices that are within about 30 feet of you.
For example, I can sync my cell phone with the address book on my computer without having to connect any wires. I can also control the mouse on my computer with my cell phone with Bluetooth.

PMP is right on-
Many people think of it as 'wireless USB' (though that's another thing).
... It even operates on the same frequency as WiFi, both of which are same same as that of a microwave. Why 802.11b should operate on the resonant frequency of water, I'm not sure.

Time for an experiment! With your base station, not mine.

Uhhh... I'm blonde, but it couldn't be me he's talking about. I've kept my big mouth shut in this thread.

Actually, I am a little curious. Are there any other telephone threads on this SPEAKER Forum?

Loosely speaking, quite a few -- though in modern terms they're knows as hijacked threads.
You know the old game of telephone, where somone tells a sentence to the person next to them and then that person passes it on, and by the time the sentence makes it to the last person it's very different from what the first person said?

Speaking of hijacked threads and mutations of ideas (in more than one way- ha.), I'm writing a paper dealing with that (memetics in general) in the background as I type this.
I had another bit on this typed, but then I decided I wouldn't hijack this more and possibly scare/bore you guys with the pseudo-biology involved.

Correct, pmb...also, the transmissions are encrypted, giving some semblence of security.
You can get Bluetooth keyboards and printers. Some PDA's are Bluetooth enabled. I believe Chrysler (or Mercedes?) is going have Bluetooth in some of their vehicles, which will allow ppl with Bluetooth cellphones to connect to the car stereo system and allow handsfree communication.
I've seen ppl use Bluetooth to link their PDA to a cell phone, and then connect to the internet thru the cellphone. Better than trying to surf on a cellphone screen.
Like a lot of technologies, it hasn't quite lived up to it's hype. Yet.
