Like me, I don’t think the amp knows anything, lol. Damn fine choices though.

Hi Rjlitho,
Well-designed separate solid-state power amps like the ADA 1500 do not have to be "set" to a specified impedance such as 4 ohm or 8 ohms. Unlike many receivers these days, they do not have current-limiting impedance switches, which severely cut the receiver's power output to prevent overheating driving a 4-ohm load. Solid-state power amps have sufficient heat-sinking and cooling so they can easily drive 4-ohm loads without shutting down or limiting their power output. So just connect your VP180 and enjoy its high-quality sound without worrying about its 4-ohm impedance.

I am looking for information on if something can limit the volume .I feel like there is a restriction on my volume I have to go pretty high on volume control .AV receiver is Yamaha RX A850 running 4 QS8S .ADA 1500 Running VP 180 and a smaller pair of speakers for left and right. Maybe its just my ears.

Just out of curiosity how loud (-20?-10?0?) and how far away are you from your 180 and closest qs8?

Brwsaw , 10ft fro VP180 - forgot to mention this is when listening to music only .QS8s are behind me and 3 ft in front .My small speakers are small two 4inch mids and 1 tweeter .I am hoping to splurge on a pair of M100S very soon .I thought with the amp it would make a difference .It sounds about the same when hooked up to AV receiver .I am assuming the small speakers do not help .

how big is the room you are in. Small speakers are for small rooms and moderate listening levels. Big speakers for everything else. I cant turn my M80's up anywhere near full output, you definitely need to talk to the department of finance (wife) and order some M100's.
