Anyone have experience with Auro 3D?

I have a Marantz 8805 processor, under utilized. I have a 5.2.2 arrangement. 2 LFR1100As, 2 ELAC up firing ATMOS speakers, 2 QS8s and a pair of Mission 77ds surrounds.

I'm thinking 6 M2 OWs, but I think for the full Auro 3Ds, you may need more. Maybe I should look at a diagram.

Any thoughts?

At some point I'll be experimenting with it. Wired the media for the extra two speakers (VOG and center height) and plan to use all 15 outputs of the 8805.

The diagram in the 8805 manual is very helpful, as is understanding all 3 format speaker location specs (which seem to vary a bit from depending on where your getting your info from). Depending on the dimensions of your room/listening area this can be a challenge.

Auro 3D is 5.1 or 7.1 + height speakers for all channels + VoG speaker above you.

Think of it as three layers: traditional surround + height + from the sky.

I've read the Dolby to Auro 3D upmixer works quite well. As for the selection of native Auro 3D material, I'm not sure.

As for M2s, you know I love them in my 2.2 living room. For home theater, I've become a believer in full channel audio from each speaker. Every speaker needs a co-resident sub...LOL!

Ceiling mounting LFR1100 Actives would be challenging and unsafe.

Oh, OK, so 7 LFR1100 Actives with 6 high mounted VP180 Actives ... that'd require 65 channels of amplification ... did I properly wiggle my fingers and toes there?

My goodness that should sound pretty good. Too bad they make so few decent movies anymore.

Mr. Mojo, if this would be a great set up, I expect you would be the pioneering early adopter. Please report!!

Oh, wait! So, do we need 7 down lows, 6 highs, and 6 skies, maybe 7 if a center sky?

So, you'd need some dedicated 20 amp lines, and many ADA1500s.

Yeah, that would be insane ... in a good way.

Haven't heard much of Auro since release.
The set up is very similar to ATMOS\DTSX. Most any Dolby guideline should be sufficient.

With the amount of H.P. woofers you already have. Something with more low end like M3 might be better suited. Someone on the forum here was at a show where they used all 8inch drivers in an ATMOS demo. To which they thought it was spectacular. compared to drivers without BASS.

Would be cool to hear of more people with AURO setups and how they compare to ATMOS. Since most of the ATMOS is quite minimal. The overheads mainly sit idle.

I'd recommend seven active LFR each for the first layer, seven active M5 on-walls for the second layer and an active M5 on-ceiling for VoG for the third layer.

As for subs, a single 800 for the .1 and VoG and seven 500s for the first and second layers. Each 500 would be connected to the 14.1-channel DSP serving each LFR and M5.

101 channels of ADAs would suffice.

I'll make you a deal, Phil. If you pay for it all, I'll install it at my place and give you a full report.

I was thinking if you buy that system, I'd buy a ticket to the great north to listen to them. I'd bring the steaks, probably have to get them up there ... what do y'all grill, reindeer, elk, moose?

Ah, excellent dining choice! The more refined use the bat lips as a garnish but the main course, monkey brain from a live monkey.

Degenerate cruelty.

What kind of amps are you going to use for all 15 outputs of the 8805? which speaker layout?

I'm going to follow your posts.

I currently have 10 channels of Axiom amplification for the LFR1100s, an Integra Research with 7 channels with XLR inputs, and 2 channels of Rotel RCA inputs only. That's a lot of amplified channels. All that gets me a 5.2.2. To go 7.2.4 (maybe it's 7.4 heights, 2 subs) (can the 8805 do that?) I'll need 4 more channels, so I need another 2 x 2 channel amps with XLRs or a 4 channel XLR amp.

If only there were some decent movies to watch.

Well the media room is a bit over the top in that respect

2 ADA1500-5 for ALFRs
1 ADA1250-6 for center, side & rear surrounds, and clark synthesis transducer (off of sub2)
1 ADA1000-8 for heights & tops

The bed layout is the typical 7 channel assuming I need the center.
The overhead layout is front and rear heights (M3 on FMCB), mid tops & VOG (M3ow on FMB).

I've also wired for fwd tops plus a few more locations just incase. Right now the media room is on hold till I get settled in my new place. Had to stop the work since the builder did not install the resilient channel properly (not to mention shorting the first layer of the wall and ceiling to the studs in at least 1/2 a dozen places).

In the mean time I will play with the bed speakers in the family room once they arrive (told Axiom no rush)
