I'm going to build some stands for a set of QS8's I have. I plan to use 4 quarter Walnut hardwood to match the Q's. I have a general idea in my head, but thought I'd see if anyone here might have some ideas of what might look cool. Pictures would be helpful. The Q's pose a bit of a challenge, due to the downward firing driver, so that little detail takes a simple table top type of stand out of the equation. They can't be tippy, so I am thinking I'll criss/cross a couple boards to make four bearing points. I can shape the boards to make them look better. I tend to migrate towards mission style furniture when I build things. I'm not into weird, progressive/contemporary crap.

I mocked up QS stands for a friend - was thinking about something really simple, just a base plus a vertical 1x6 or whatever was wide enough to hold the wall mount bracket that comes with the QS speakers. The base could be a single piece of wood as well as long as you had a solid connection with the vertical and a brace/fillet between base and vertical.
Made a prototype with a couple of pieces of scrap wood and it seemed to work at least as well as the soup cans. The base was positioned mostly forward of the vertical so the center of gravity ends up centered on the base.
I used pocket screws between vertical and base, plus regular screws driven through vertical and base into the brace/fillet along with a bit of glue.
Always thought it would look better with two narrower verticals rather than one wide one. You could also probably do something slick with the brace/fillet by making it at a narrow angle so it goes further up the vertical rather than the 45 degree brace I used. Using taller braces would also make it easy to run a horizontal board between the braces for stability if you used two narrow verticals rather than one wide one.

I have a plan. I drew something up yesterday. Machined all the boards and today I'll get it assembled. I still need to work out the details around the height adjustment lock I'm making.
I tried to incorporate soup cans into the design, but just couldn't make them work.

Looking forward to seeing the result - pretty sure it will be slicker than my design Thanks for trying to include the soup cans. I was thinking about wrapping some Habitant labels around the vertical tubes in the Axiom QS stands but it didn't seem like it would be an improvement.

It's unfortunate you can't incorporate soup can architecture in your design, Michael. Campbell's ABC's vegetarian vegetable reduces F# resonance.

I just noticed that Axiom has changed their FMS QS stand to use a single vertical tube rather than the pair of tubes in the original FMS QS stand. Looks like it uses the same base plate for the speaker (with tabs coming up the back of the speaker for mounting) then a U-shaped bracket to support the base plate. It's too late to be useful but I found an earlier thread discussing QS stands, complete with a hokey drawing of what I was suggesting. Link

Here's what I came up with. Finished them yesterday. Height is adjustable by loosening the thumb screw, sliding the speaker up/down, then tighten the thumb screw again. Brainstorming..... Machined boards to use from S2S Walnut...... Height adjuster thingy... The base... Prior to a quick poly finish.
