I know you have a preference for separates, but you might want to take a peek at the new Denon 6800 AVR that's starting to ship. It might just scratch the itch.... I think it just moved to the top of my shopping list.

Oh I see. I misunderstood that bit of the review I guess. That makes more sense.

Think it was Deniro in taxi driver who said “you taking to me?”. Yeah, HT wise I’m obsessed with going to a higher channel count some day … including something with 4 subs. Right now with the 8805 I’m at 7.2.6 where each sub channel drives 2 subs. The AV10 or AVM90 would take me to 9.4.6 if I was willing to pony up 6 or $7k … but I’m happy to wait a bit more, get the HT a bit more finished, and see if the next generation of prepro gets me anything more …

Well, it is YOUR thread.

The 6800 can process up to 7.4.6 or 9.4.4 with some external amplification. Ripewave Audio has one on hand and posted his first review. He is doing several over the next couple of weeks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suaygCG03QM

I know, he's dry and bored. But still detailed as hell. Just drink some espresso or Red Bull before watching.

I appreciate the thought but the 6800 is not the step forward I’m looking for … at the moment I’m getting ok surround for maybe 4 seats. Ultimately I’d like to get great surround sound at all 8 seats. How to get there is not 1000% clear … think more channels is part of the solution… but before going there I need to first tame the room … which requires me to rework the platform and wiring access so I can put in the carpet. Unfortunately, work on the HT keeps getting put off … right now I doubt I’d have any real time before April… in the mean time I entertain my nerd itch by thinking about 13.4.18 (13 heights, 5 tops) and wondering where the diminishing returns happen

I knew that smile

But when does adding another set of channels not gain you much in object placement.

Someone got a 43.2 setup just to answer that question! The person in the picture is thinking "I got rrlev good." smile

(The screen capture is from HiVi Magazine #466 Winter 2022/23, associated with an article about the Storm Audio's ISP.24 Analog Mk 3 pre-pro. HiVi Magazine is available through most public libraries' online libby account for free).

Think the person in the picture is depressed … “I spent all this money and all I got was one good seat!” grin

Micheal, I took a 2nd look at his video list and really liked some of his comparative videos on which processors/AVR’s support auro-3d or which support wides … also seems to have an idea of what is up’n coming. I’m a bit skeptical on his claims of which unit is better sound wise … but overall think he’s a worthwhile resource… even got used to his monologue drone … smile
