Finally got someone to look at it...it was a bad "positive 12-volt regulator"...he said it overheated...and was surprised there wasn't a heat sink or fan

Glad you got that fixed. Regulators don't always need heat sinks or fans. Maybe there was another fault that caused it to overheat. Or maybe it's bad design and it should have thermal regulation.

It's just a chip...cooling for the whole ps is what he meant.

The bottom photo shows the v2 heatsink outside the cabinet.

The top photo shows the heatsink moved inside.

Fans are a no no and should be avoided by the designer.

Well then you know what? You, as the customer, get the benefit of the doubt. Axiom ought to allow you to trade up from your 175v3 to the 125v4. Andrew has said the 125v4 bats as hard as the 175v3! I have two in cherry chestnut and love them.
