I have a RW Expresso (and a RW Chestnut) sample. If no one winds up having speakers in that finish I can take pictures in whatever manner you like. Or I could send it to you if you think it'd be faster than getting one from Axiom.

Thanks! I will wait to see if anyone has speakers in that finish. Can you post a pic of the sample? No panic.

It's very overcast here today, so these are not great. But I'll be glad to try again when the light is better.
For reference, my speakers are Cherry-Bordeaux, the samples are RW-Espresso and RW-Chestnut.

Think you need to dust those samples a bit Cork.

BTW, overcast days should be great light if you go outside.
The clouds act like a giant light box giving a very soft light.
Another suggestion would be to help the auto white balance of your camera by including a large white piece of paper next to the sample. Shade shifts the color of light to be more blue and with a monochrome subject the camera can't make a good decision.

I did dust it! I even rubbed them both a lot with the day old shirt I was wearing. They were in my garage, so probably need to polish them. And that second shot was outside in front of a white garage door. Thing is, I don't think the Moto Z4 is known as having a good camera, so that doesn't help.

Guess that dust is mold .. the garage must be a damp place.
also the the moto’ z4’s lens may need a cleaning … every thing looks so hazy …

Hmmm ... didn't think of mold. It's hot in there, but not damp; and nothing else has gotten (visibly) moldy in there. Believe me when I say it was a very hazy day. It was a Philadelphia in Aug day, not June.
Looking at the samples again I think what you're seeing is oil from my hands, I must have been sweaty when I last handled them.
All things considered, except for the glare, the second picture is a decent representation of the wood and stain.

Actually that's how my samples looked as well. The satin finish almost looked a bit dullish, slightly milky. The semi gloss really popped in comparison.
That Espresso finish is really quite dark. On the rosewood, it looks alot like how i'm finishing our interior house wood.

I looked again … the 2nd photo is definitely better then I thought.
I tend to get obsessed with this stuff … a pict from way back
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
Even the slight angle change is starting to wash out the two maple samples … I had to stop myself from retaking it

You picture is definitively clearer than mine, but ... I blame the camera!

What I'd really like to know is how you get the picture to be displayed as a "thumbnail". I keep trying to make that work and have had zero luck.

Wow chesseroo, you're right those semi-gloss look very nice, especially in the comparison.
I asked for a semi-gloss and it was very glossy. Now that I see yours I think they sent me a glossy.

Here's another snap on a sunny day. (And you know what, they don't look that different.)
Clockwise from top-right: Cherry-Chestnut ("semi"), Cherry-Bordeaux, RW-Espresso, RW-Chestnut.

The semi gloss has been excellent so far. It is not in a sunny room but when i had the new speakers on the main floor, they were no worse than the Tannoys we have up there for overall gloss. Far from piano gloss finish. The difference between the basic satin and the semi gloss was so strikingly different and better IMO that is was a no brainer to have that done instead of their default satin option. I honestly think Axiom should do the semi gloss as their default finish.

To insert an image your link needs to have the file type suffix included (e.g. .jpg, .gif). If your link to the image does not have that suffix then you end up inserting an HTML link as your post does above.
I use imgur for pic hosting.

I used something else many moons ago but it went stupid with ads and limited cross linking images so i abandoned that photo hosting service.

Thanks everyone. Trying to decide if new rosewood espresso towers are in my future. Feel like being irresponsible. Lol.

I'm using https://postimages.org ... you upload your pict and then it will offer you several ways to share it. One of them is for forums ... hit the copy symbol and paste it where you want it in your message ...

To see how it will look to others hit the preview button before sending it

BTW, if you mention my name you'll get 50% off their "free" tier price ... smile
Free is the only tier I'm willing to pay for ...

Thanks rrlev. I'm already paying for Amazon hosting so I was hoping it was a board usage trick.

Trevor with spur of the moment towers - nice! Well, you have my +1 for the RW-Espresso; obviously it was one of my finalists. In my opinion it's a very classic and formal presentation.

Being a woodworker, it seems such a shame to take the natural colour of Rosewood and try and stain it to a different colour. I guess its part of what people want. Like the thinking that Walnut needs to be a deep dark brown. Or Mahogany for that matter. Just a personal preference I guess.

I can see the apprehension over staining an already attractive wood grain/color.

The mockup of the rosewood/espresso on the website looks very classy to me. I already have Rosewood in high gloss, but looking back Espresso would have been striking too. smile

I have an older pair of bookshelves in Zebrawood with high gloss epoxy finish. Stunning. I miss that wow factor in my listening room.

I prefer semi-gloss myself ... High gloss shows too many finger prints, dust, etc ... but when polished ... it can be awesome. Also if the speakers are surrounding a TV or screen the reflections might pull the eye to them. Not to mention raise the ambient a bit.

That's why all the speakers in the media room are satin. Even the ALFRs which I debated about since I really wanted them in semi ... think axiom felt the same way as they seem to be something between satin and semi ...

For me, the rosewood expresso seems too dark and hides the look of the rosewood ... think you can get the same effect in a different wood and save some money. Also as far as my stain on the LFRs, I regret not changing the media room's color scheme to fit the natural santo rosewood color as I think that would have shown the wood off better.

I've been redoing the wood in our house, put semi gloss on part of the stair railing last week. For some reason it isn't going on like semi gloss normally does. Stirred the can well, got all the globs at the bottom back into suspension, yet on the post knobs it looks partly like heavy matte finish and the odd overly shiny blob here and there almost as if the urethane still wasn't fulled mixed.
Just odd.
Starting to wonder if i bought a really old can or something.

Is this a new can? If so perhaps you got one that's out of date? ...
If a used can perhaps it was not stored/put away correctly, or the can was left open for a while before being closed ...

I know with old paint that can definitely happen ...
