Thanks for the link, DSQ. So, what we need here is a good, old fashioned Yamaha "loudness" knob, eh?

Mark, I did not mean to sound so serious or to imply ANYTHING negative about your comment. I DO think getting a sub is a good idea. I've got to learn to "type happier" in the mornings. I sincerely apologize if my tone indicated anything other than friendly (and apparently mindless) tapping.

Indeed DSQ. I believe you pretty much have it nailed.
There is a point at which the increase in volume has placed the higher and lower frequencies into a certain preference range for the listener. Any speaker will decrease in its sound 'quality' the lower the volume is turned.
Adding a sub, turning up treble or bass may add to the enjoyment of a low volume session even though it technically is 'colouring' the sound.
I prefer to listen to music at nothing less than 55 on the Onkyo absolute scale of 0-100. This equates to about 60dB if i remember correctly. For movies i prefer nothing less than 75, a dB approximation of 70-80.
