I'm close to ordering a pair of m22's and having a difficult time deciding if maple or boston cherry is right for me. Chessaroo's pics from the axiom tour look totally different than what I had seen on the axiom website, which has made it more confusing. Amie has sent me a sample of both(not here yet) and I feel that a few good quality pics of the speakers themselves in the both finishes would be even better. Youre help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe these will help. Maybe not. Or, perhaps these.

Ajax,
Were those second sets of pictures the standard maple or the new 'natural' or 'bleached' maple? They looked more yellowish than the standard maple vinyl.

The second set actually looked like the birch or even oak finish. I don't think they were maple.

Haven't got the foggiest. Because I thought I remembered some pics of maples being posted, I just did a search for "maple" and there they were.

They could well be another finish. The word "maple" appeared in a post by snippy, in that thread, and had nothing to do with the photos. Mea culpa.

You did a search for "maple"?
Just how many hits did that bring up?
I don't recall anyone posting maple pictures specifically recently but then again, i haven't been on the forums on a daily basis for awhile.

Actually not that many, and I went back 6 months. Edited the post above. The first photos are maple, the second batch, probably not, though the finish is never really identified in the thread. In fact, the last post asks what finish they are, and...............silence.

Thanks to chesseroo for helping this thread get off its feet. Thanks to all for your replies. I too had the darndest time searching for any photos of maple finish. Ajax the first link i had seen before and couldn't open it today or even a while back. Youre guess is as good or better than mine concerning the second link. Hopefully when these samples arrive it will provide a clear view of what I'm looking for. And I'll see how the samples match up to the photos that I have seen. But the sound is the most important right? Whatever I choose I believe happiness is on its way. BTW, this is for snippy. Before I asked this question here I was diligently searching for these photos and came across a website named dvdfile, with a username snipsnapsappy. Was that you? or maybe your evil twin stealing your identity? Just thought I'd ask. Thanks again for everyones help.

Do you still want/need some photos of maple at this point? I could take some photos tonight and send them to you. I elected maple with the black grilles.

Let me know!

Sometimes this really depends on your significant other and how much they are into the music over the decorating challenge.

Rich, post some pictures anyway.
Everyone loves pictures.

If you need a place to host them, photobucket.com has been recommended by several and it is apparently free (donate at will).

If its not to much trouble that would be most excellent. I just received a sample of boston cherry(maple still on its way) and thought they had sent me the wrong color. The sample is definitely brown with a hint of red to my eyes. I was anticipating a dark reddish brown shown on the axiom website, but didn't meet my (sigh) expectations. Not saying the boston cherry was a dissapointment, just wasn't what I'd thought I had seen. Probably because my monitor is a far from calibrated. Fortunatly the folks at axiom are sending me samples with their most patience so I can get my order right the first time. THanks again, richeydog

Considered the custom finishes? The Vermont Maple or Classic Oak might be more to your taste. The Vermont Maple definitely has a deep red color.

richeydog,

I actually thought the Boston Cherry was going to be a bit darker than what i originally saw on the website after we first received our speakers. However, i have to evaluate the colour of my speakers in either bright sunlight or in the flourescent lighting of my basement. Under incandescent lighting, the colour is quite darker (per the images i sent you before) which is more similar to the colour of B.cherry that i see on my monitor on the website.
Now, with that in mind, i had a chance to peruse ALL the colours that Axiom had on hand at the factory and the Vermont Maple is really the colour i think i was hoping the Boston Cherry would be. Kcarlisle just received a sample of the Vermont if i'm not mistaken and he can corroborate my impression of it, but compared to the boston cherry the Vermont is much darker and richer, a deeper tone of brown and red.
It may actually be the colour you were more expecting. I suggest you consider having Amie send you a sample of the Vermont as well but it is a specialty finish so the speaker cost would be higher.

Yeah I've taken a look or two at those custom finishes. Vermont maple does appear to be a dark cherry. But I'm really not dead set on that color. Maybe when the maple(sample) finish arrives it could be a clear winner for me.
Im sticking to the four main finishes for financial reasons. I'll most likely buy from the factory outlet to save some cash for future axiom purchases. Thanks anyway for your suggestion.

Sorry for the long delay. Finally took some pictures, and joined photobucket (thanks to all who suggested this). I'm not thrilled with how these came out -- the maple looks too washed out. It is fairly white, but not as white looking as they appear on my screen.

That's what happens when you use an old Canon PowerShot A10. Oh well. And no snide comments about the mess and all of the wires everywhere! I got a panasonic E80 (HDD and DVD-RAM), and am in the process of transferring a whole bunch of programs recorded on VHS into DVD-Rs. Cool little box.

And yes, that is my beloved Sony GWIII 42". Wasn't really paying attention to the image I captured. Anyone need some Plavix?

At least it wasn't a commercial for viagra. hehe. Your pictures look nice. Definitely not as white or washed out as they appear on the axiom website. I'm still waiting for the maple sample, asked for it about a week ago. When it gets here I'll be doing some comparisons directly to the pics posted here. I want to make sure I get the finish I'm satisfied with in the long run, but the wait is killing me! Been without speakers for two weeks since I sold my jbl E80's. Two whole weeks! hehe.
Will post again when I make my decision(color)and order these m22's. Thanks, richeydog.

richeydog-

if you want a sample sent to you, just call the 1-800# on the website. you can order a sample of any color with any screen you want, and they cost $10 bucks per sample. but they forward that price toward any speakers that you buy.. so its a win/win situation. if you have already decided on getting the axioms, then ordr some samples and you will not be out any money!!

Glad I could assist! That's the first time I've posted photos here, so I was a little nervous.

I really like the maple. Of course, when I got mine over a year ago now, most of the custom colors weren't available. But I'm not so sure I'd change. The maple matches well with most of the maple furniture we have.

And, yes, the SVS is rather large. That's a 20-39pci. It's usually a little less conspicuous with some ivy on a stand in front of it. But that baby sure can pump out some serious bass. I love it for both music and HT. But the sheer size of it does have me occasionally contemplating getting a "box" sub.

Hey Bren--

At moderate and/or non-critical listening levels, no. But they are small and light, and get removed when putting on a movie or cranking the volume. My concession to my wife's desire to keep them decorated.

I wanted to give an update to my situation. I received the maple sample in the mail a couple of weeks ago. After much consideration I decided it was too light for my taste. So instead of paying extra for the custom finishes, I went for the basic black m22's. I'll be asking Amie or Brent for a color sample of the charcoal grill cloth to see if I can create a nice two-tone look for my speakers.
My m22's shipped on the 10th(thursday). I heard that many of you get your speakers within 48 hours. Well not me. I was expecting them saturday, eagerly waiting all day and nothing! Apparantly fedex had one speaker in Oakland and the other in Fresno. So I had to wait two more days for them to sort it out but there here now. First impressions were excellent. Listened to Vivaldi's four seasons and immediately noticed a large soundstage with great clarity and detail. Midrange was smooth, highs were crisp and clean. No brightness whatsoever. These babies are perfect for my classical listening tastes. Mom walks in the room and immediately notices how much clearer and detailed they are compared to my (sold)jbl e80's. How's that for MAF(mother's acceptance factor). Hehe. Then watched a few scenes from LOTR(disc1) and heard minute details that I didn't know existed. Awesome. These are keepers. You can rip up that 30 day warranty. Can't wait until I can afford a vp150 and dual Qs8's. Anyway I sincerely appreciate all those who made efforts to generate photos and give advice for me. I am now a proud axiom owner. Cheers, Richeydog.

All here know that tastes differ. We don't expect EVERY Axiom purchaser to be happy with their speakers. That fact just makes it all the sweeter when a new purchaser IS pleased. Enjoy!
