Quick question, because I have obviously missed the boat on something...
Why are we making our own speaker wire now? (referring to the DIY thread and the pics of the wires)
Is there an advantage to DIY? Is it cost, quality, etc...? Or is it another part of the hoby that us casual (relative term on this board) home theaterphiles are missing out on?
Just curious, and I only mention it because wire is so cheap to begin with (even cheaper on eBay than at Home Depot etc.), I wondered why we'd go through all of the trouble.
Cheers, though, and thanks for sharing pictures of your projects.

Basically is simply cost. You can get a high quality, good looking speaker cable set for next to nothing if you make it yourself. Plus it's kind of fun. I haven't made speaker cables yet myself, but I'm very interested. It looks like it'd be a hoot.

I thought as much - but it does seem like a lot of work...

Well, getting out of bed in the morning can be a lot of work, but we all do that.

The real question is whether or not we regret it after the fact

I've done it...
It isn't that much work, and it really is not that interesting, but the end result you have something that looks nice and works well.

Or, in my case, something that works well and doesn't look all that great. I'll have to try harder next time.
For me, it was the coolness factor and cost.

OK...I've just bought all the stuff to make my own, and to my dismay it ended up costing more than if I had just bought a pair from Axiom. *sigh* At least I'll have the "fun" of building my own.
