The Lord of the Rings DVD is un-dirty word-believable. The picture is flawless, and the DD soundtrack is the best I've heard...more dynamic and better use of surrounds than Gladiator, The Matrix, and Star Wars I. Simply incredible, a totally 3-D soundstage, and I don't even have surround backs for EX. Buy this DVD...NOW.
Yes, I know the one due in November has even more footage and special features, so I'll give my standard retort...the movie is a visual synopsis of the story anyway. When you have a yearning for more than what the movie offers, why not just read the books?

"Un-dirty-word believable"?
Now that's funny.
Read books?
I can't, i'm too busy listening to music.

I definitely have to agree, LOFT DVD is fantastic. The sound is incredibly dynamic, make sure you have that remote handy. The rumblings on track 7 shake things on the other side of the house. The score is also fantastic, can't wait for "Two Towers."
