This question has probably been asked before but I couldn't find anything. I know you guys talk about cables and connectors quite often. Is there a site you recommend for purchasing a good SACD/DVD-Audio cable to connect the receiver to the SACD player?
I guess while I am asking about cables...we will be framing my house in the next few weeks and I am going to prewire the house for home theater. In general, where do you folks recommend I buy speaker cable? I know there are many post about this but I just would like to know what you think. Thannks.

for hooking up you dvd/cd player to the receiver, you can use and good coaxil cable.. blue jeans cables, fusion(radio shack) are good places to start.. and as far as speaker wire, a nice 12 or 14 gauge from home depot will do the job.
dont get caught up in the whole monster cable myth.. its way overpriced.

I use Dayton Cables (bottom of this page, and first 3 on the 2nd page) from PartsExpress, for my interconnects, and like them. They're not el cheapolas in quality, and they're moderately priced. Good bang for the buck.
Here is some inexpensive, good quality, in-wall rated, Carol speaker wire. It comes in the 100 ft. roll or a 550 ft. roll. I don't know the regulations in your state, but when you run wires through walls, they usually must meet certain codes (fire, I think). Be sure your wire meets the necessary codes.

Another cabling suggestion...get zip ties (those little plastic strips that bind stuff...kind of like the gizmo that holds your power cord all coiled together when you buy something) and use them to bundle together the cables that are all going to and from the same place. You can also use bigger ones to bind your cables to your rack. These little dudes made my rat's nest of wires into something with a litle bit of organization.

OK forgive me, I am new to the SACD/DVD-Audio world. So basically for hooking up the SACD player to the receiver, you could simply use three pairs of red/white RCA cables to hook up to a 5.1 channel input? Or do you have to use a specialized 5.1 channel interconnect from say bluejeanscable.com?

I couldn't agree more. Zip ties are your friend(s). You can also find less permanent velcro straps that will give you the same results.

Nothing special is required. Those are all analog signals coming out of those outputs. Just buy some good quality cables, but don't go overboard.

3 pair of regular RCA cables will do fine. That's what I'm going to use. I do not know if they exist, but if you can find a 6 conductor cable made specially for universal players, and it is affordable, go ahead and use that, if you prefer.

Is the actual RCA brand speaker cable from Home Depot sufficient for speaker wire. I saw 14 guage for right at $35 for 100 feet. I will probably go with that unless I hear otherwise. Any complaints?

yes, unless you are making cable runs of over 30ft, then 14g will be fine..
if you have runs over 30-35 ft, then 12g is recommended.
i got my speaker at home depot also.. havent had any probs with it.

One thing to think about if you are dealing with a major HT wire mess. Blue Jeans Cables sends you 5 different colored cables (cut to your specs). Really helps with identification/trouble shooting.
On the other hand, I found some white electricians tape and labeled both ends of each cable. The tape allows you to write on it and it shows up nicely.

Jason, there's no specific "SACD/DVD-Audio Cable". As Jack and Peter pointed out, this is simply transferring analog signals over three feet or so and any inexpensive "RCA" cables(not necessarily heavily shielded 75ohm coaxial)such as are often included with players should be entirely satisfactory.
As far as the speaker cable, get it at an inexpensive online or local source such as Home Depot. A behind the wall installation should use cable rated for that type of installation, not standard speaker wire, to keep the building/fire inspectors happy.

This is what I bought from Bluejeans. It has all six channels you need, they're all color coded, and for a couple bucks extra they come all bundled together in a nice techflex jacket.
