I recently recieved my m80ti speakers but I have a problematic room.My previous speakers were Mirage frx 7s and AR9s.No matter what I did the Bass was excessive and boomy.I purchased a Audio Control half octave Richter Scale bass control equalizer with a sound meter and calibrated mike. The adjustable points are 22.5hz,31.5,45,63,and 125hz with 250hz as the reference frequency.I was able to smooth out the bass response to a large degree. With the m80s I have a problem. There seems to be a problem somewhere between 31.5hz and 45hz.Unequalized the speakers Were peaking out +6 dbs at31.5hzs.Equalized the most I can get it down to is +2dbs.All other frequencys are almost flat. The speakers still sound boomy no matter where I move them.I am really frustrated at this point.Anybody have any ideas? Please help.

he got pissed at some heated conversations and decided to take off.. i kinda thought he over acted a little, but hey, to each their own.. he had his opinion, someone else had theirs, and it just got a little persoanl and out of hand. i was really hoping he would cool off and come back, but i think not.. its been 2-3 weeks since i have heard from him.

i have just come to not let what is said in this type forum make me mad.. it just aint worth it.. i got enough poop to mess with in my REAL life.. so, for all you out there in cyberland, GO SUCK A FAT-ONE!! whoa, dont know what came over me there.

oh crap, good luck with your bass problems.. (i always do this)(shame)

I had a similar problem. I had to employ bass traps which corrected my issue. However, it does take some tweaking to get it right. Try playing with some sound absorbing materials, like a pillow and place them in the corners near the M80's. Then retest, if it gets better then you should look into bass traps

Just a thought…

Alas, I am the one who ticked Bren off.
I'm afraid I reacted a little harshly when one of his opinions rubbed me wrong. I feel badly - but I've done much worse in my life, as, I assume, have we all.

RE: Bren... if ur gonna talk politics ya gotta have thick skin, ppl just see things differently (wrongly! )

RE: Bass... can you try the speakers in a different room as a test? Sure sounds like something in the current room is being fussy. Perhaps doing all the same testing u've done there in another place will help reveal something u hadn't thought of? Just an idea.

Imagine my disappointment that this thread has nothing whatsoever to do with fishing. Tragic, really. Where's Furrer?

My momma always said it was impolite to discuss money, politics and religion. I'd rather keep my friends and embrace our common joys than dwell on the different ways we all frame our world.

Sorry. Should have made it clearer that what I couldn't resist was the unintended double entendre of the phrase "GO BUSH." Make no assumptions about my political leanings from my play on words. I thought Moab's post was humorously instructive, so I just joined in the tongue in cheek humor. I'm the one usually pleading for avoidance of political posting. I feel this isn't the appropriate place for it. But, at the same time, IMHO, we shouldn't get so up tight that we can't laugh at ourselves, now and then, even when it concerns politics.

It does seem to get pretty nasty, often.
I majored in PoliSci and teach history, gov't and econ. Sometimes forget that people aren't discussing these subjects as openly or frequently as I do.
The list of taboo subjects also includes sex, money and your job, right?

Tangentially(sp?), I saw on AVS forum that posting links to discount retailers, or even saying how much you paid for a piece of equipment, is against the rules. That's ridiculous!
Once again I applaud the generally tolerant oversight of this forum. To censor the free exchange of info and ideas is far more repugnant, IMO, than the ugliest exchange I've ever witnessed.

I agree completely. I don't think there should be any RULES or LAWS about what we can or can't discuss here. But, I do think it would demonstrate wisdom if we voluntarily avoided the off topic subjects that obviously can set things off. We have enough "on topic" differences that can do that. At the risk of sounding pollyannaish (is that a word?), it's far more important to me to maintain the friendships I've formed here (and ridiculous as it may be, I do think of most of you as friends), than it is to impose my political positions on others here who may feel differently.

This is a forum about speakers, and related subjects. If I wish to express my positions on political issues, I'm sure there are other forums on the internet that would welcome them.

OK. Now let's talk about SEX! I don't HAVE any money or a job, so I can't talk about that.

My expression "Go Bush" was intended as a joke to the related thread. If its offensive to anybody...............then to bad get a sense of humor! We can have a little fun and thats all it was and it shouldnt be read in any other way. Now lets all take out chill pills and and I guess talk about the sound stage of the diffenent speakers or something more exciting

And that's exactly how I took it. I laughed aloud when I read it. My reply was meant as a shot at humor, not at Mr. Bush.

OK, I laughed at that one. I guess I'm just thin skinned about the political ones, which I generally don't read. Bugs me when they start sneaking into the regular threads. Now that we've beaten that to death, bass is pretty good at my house, but I think I need to turn it up more. When a train goes over a cliff and explodes, you're supposed to feel it, right?

Depends on if the train is filled with bass...you still should be able to feel it, but it should be immediately followed by a great number of wet flopping sounds...

Tom, how's that for bring fish into the thread?

At my house, I like to state that "The Thunder Reigns Supreme" when referring to my SVS 20-39 PC+.

Jack, I'm glad you are able to recall that you like sex. I'm reduced to taking a daily supplement comprised of viagara and ginko biloba. It helps me remember how good sex used to be.

ROFLMAO! I love it...

No, no, this was the train in Back to the Future III. I backed it up when I didn't feel anything and turned up the sub a bit, but it still lacked impact. Anyone have experience with this disc? Does the train make the house shake or not?

I will have to check that out...I have the above sub and the movie...maybe the family will want to watch that tonight...

You do mean when the car is destroyed by the train at the end of the film, right?

Let me get out of here (still at work) and I will see what impact it has in my setup...I'll let you know.

I know that I was very disappointed that they opted to NOT include the DTS versions of these movies when they released the box set...

I guess I'm going to have to start paying attention to that now that I have a real receiver and real speakers... not that I have surrounds or a center yet...

Well, the scene when the train runs off the track and explodes was rather unimpressive on my setup as well. So was the scene where the current day train destroys the Delorean...there was bass there but not in the amounts more recent films contain...hence my comment about the DTS versions.

If memory serves me right, that scene was also not very impressive when it was released in the theater either...

Believe it has to do with WHEN the movie was produced...and the technology available at the time.

More emphasis has been placed on BIG explosions and MUCH action for current releases...was not that way previously...

I personally believe that these movies were rushed out to make the Christmas DVD release a couple of years ago...and the time was NOT taken to remaster them correctly or compensate for different customer requirements.

Wow. I thought they were pretty good, in general. I did notice that when the Delorian pops back into 1985 on the bridge, the temporal booms were much more bassy than the train explosion. I'll have to dig out some action movies on DVD. If I have any... I suppose I could watch LotR, but without the 3rd Extended Edition, I don't really feel like it.

I'm not saying that the movies were not good. I have always liked them, thoroughly enjoyed them and saw them numerous times when they were still in the theater.

I was just expecting more from the remastering to DVD.

Yes, the temporal excursions were much more bassy than the train explosion...Other movies I have rattle the walls as well as the furniture we sit on...It was just not as "intense" with the BTTF movies as others created after them.

All in all, the movies are great to watch on DVD...I just wish they had augmented the appropriate scenes where warranted in the DVD remastering process.

Just my opinion...we all have them.

Nah, I didn't think you didn't like the movies, I apparently just don't have the sensitivity to DVD quality/remastering that some poeple do (yet.) I'm pretty new to this whole thing. I just know that I don't really like the audio quality on T2: Ultimate Edition...

Back from hijacked thread land...

How about room size? If any 2 walls are the same length or multiples of another, problems such as what you are experiencing will occur.

It sounds like you are dealing with some untamed Bass Nodes / coupling. You'll need a buddy to help you with this as you'll need someone to position the speakers for you until you get the desired effect. Try moving them closer to/away from the wall, raise them off the floor (spikes)...

good attitude. mine exactly. I've come to like this board because it doesn't typically have the abbrasive attitudes that other boards have... and the usual skum-bag troller just trying to stir some [censored] pot up doesn't usually last long here. Plus, it's been very informative for me.
