I hooked up my Denon 3805 to the M60's, VP150, QS8's and SVS PB2-ISD. Since there were speakers in the ceiling and the Denon has 7.1, I hooked the ceiling speakers as the rear surround. The ceiling is 12 ft.
I hooked the Denon mic for calibration, and it did not pick up the ceiling speakers. I am assuming the 12 ft. and the fact they are not "good" speakers had something to do with it. Also, the room is medium and the 5.1 sounds great.
I could
1.)Manually set the Denon to 7.1
2.)Set it to 5.1 and take the rears to the M60's for bi amping.
Any suggestions? Since the Denon is pretty good on the power side, would I really notice that much improvement in the bi amping?

You can't use the rear channels to bi-amp the mains. The Denon doesn't work that way.
Also, during the calibration, I believe you need to first tell it that there are rear surrounds connected, then it will detect them.

That's the best part! I love(d) finding out and learning all the new/cool things surrounding stereo and HT equipement!

Is this the same method described in audoholic.com (bi-amping 3805)?

I went audioholics and it does appear you can bi amp using the rear speakers. Thanks for the link. I'll try it this weekend.

Well I'll be damned. So it does work! You can't assume anything these days.

Yes Paul, as Peter pointed out, you have to set the 3805 for the left and right back speakers and then they should be detected, regardless of their quality. I'd think that this would be of more advantage to you than the bi-amping technique described in the Audioholics review, which contrary to the statement there certainly doesn't double the power; it merely results in a separate amp driving the woofers and the mid/highs at the same maximum power, which may be of little benefit.
