Hi Guys,
I was taking a peak in the classified here in Calgary and I see someone is selling a pair of Axiom AX5's?
How old is this model of speaker? How does it compare to the current line of speakers, sound wise?

There must have been several designs of the AX3-5 models, as I own AX3's, and lusted after AX5's in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
Mine are not rear firing subwoofers - they face forwards ( but I remember the AX5's as rear firing), have a square cabinet design, and came in both vinyl and veneer. Keep in mind that they may have lifetime warranties, at least mine do. That may have been changed at some point, as the design seems to have changed.
As a point of reference, I have driven mine with NAD, SIMAUDIO, YBA, tube amps, mass market stuff (Akia, Sony, Yamaha, etc), etc, and have only experienced difficulties when using the mass market low end products. I have been impressed by the sound and quality of them, and continue to use them.

Ahh yes, those 4 ohms guys. I am using an HK630 and I have read about a few people that have used them to run 4 ohms speakers.
I am new to this game and I am a little reserved about pushing my new receiver like that.

i really couldnt tell you if the HK630 would have a prob with pushing a 4ohm load.. i know the 630 is only rated at around 50 watts, but HK also undercuts their power ratings a lot.
i know denons have no probs with the 4ohm load, but i have been told that yamahas and onkyos have trouble with it.. hopefully, someone with some experience with your situation will speak up.

HK and Denon have no problem with a 4 ohm load
I am running a Denon 1602 (their lowest model) with M80's and have never had a problem
