Question:
Rear Surround, mostly will be wall mounted (current house) next house?? I move about every two years (military).
So, M2s, M3, or M22?
System is/will be:
Yamaha 750- just bought
Center VP150 Cherry--got a great used deal
Fronts - M60s (ordering)
Surrounds - QS8s (ordering w/ speaker stands)
Sub - Velodyne 10" approx 4yrs old
Rear Surrounds??? (will be ordering, wall mounts/speaker stands?)
will use Infinity US-1s as my PL speakers
I hear great reviews on all 3, but not sure of best match.
thanks

SiteCR2,

Usually the M22 is considered the best match for the M60's as the drivers are the same. I am currently using a set of M22's as surrounds (5.1 setup right now) and they sound awesome. It will be especially great if you use the rear surrounds for DVD-A and SACD music playback...I know they do when I play Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band...I cannot tell the difference between the M60's and the M22's except for the bass extension.

M22's are the best match in my humble opinion.

My .02,

Since they'll only be rear surrounds, not not being pushed all that hard at all ever, I'd get the M2i's. They're equally timbre matched to the M60's and cost a lot less.

I'd eliminate the M3ti from your lineup, as they've got a different sound than the M60's.

Hello SiteCR2,

Hope you are well. I would second the recommendation of the M2i as rear surrounds. I own these and they are a fantastic speaker, I use a pair for my center channel on either side of my TV. They are a perfect match for the M60Ti, since they are the same if you remove the 2 6.5" drivers from the M60Ti.

Later,

TonyM

IMHO, it depends on your listening habits. If your listening is heavily weighted to movies, I'd think of putting 2 more QS8s in the rear. They are fantastic surround speakers, and will do fine with music too.

If you're into SACD and/or DVD-A at any level, then I'd make the 22s (if the budget allows) or 2s (if you want to put the money into other equipment) in the rear. Either will make you happy. They can be used in a 5.1 configuration when listen to the hi rez formats, and they'll do just fine as rears in a 7.1 configuration for movies or whatever.

Please let us know what you decide, and how it works out. Pictures are always appreciated.

I'm an adventure movie type and wife a romantic type.
music (since i'm a 70s product) I listen to 60/70s oldies, most rock, country music, classical and some modern rock.
wife on the other hand listens to contemporary christian and some country. so its pretty wide range.
don't have any cool guy audio stuff yet, just dvd, HDTV, digital cable, CDs for now. next piece might be

I find it interesting that you are using two m2's as center speakers. How does that set up compare to a vp 100 or 150. Might be able to get the M2's cheaper than the 150 on used marked. I'd like ot hear others opinions to alternates to the vp150. I also have the M60's as fronts.

Ed, Tony hasn't posted in over a year, but my own view has always been that if a center speaker is to be used at all(rather than a "phantom center")a vertically oriented speaker is preferable. Two M2s work well, but even one should be adequate, although as usual, when two speakers are playing the same signals, output is increased by 3dB.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.
