Hi all

Now that I finally got around to joining the Axiom family I've got a question for some of you who wall mounted your sourrounds on drywall. I've got the T bracket that comes with the QS4 but the locations I'd like to place them don't seem to have a metal stud running nearby. If I were to use butterfly anchors straight into the drywall would it be sufficient to mount the QS4 onto the T brackets? I'll be heading out to Home Depot tomorrow as well to ask them for their advice but I'd like to here how some of you did it.

On another note, I weighed the QS4 and they were closer to 10 lbs then the 5.5 lbs listed on the website. That's part of the reason I want to know how to mount them on drywall. I wouldn't want one of those things coming down and cracking open someones head, or worse yet having the speaker cracking open because of someones head.

You don't have any studs near where you want to mount them? That's somewhat surprising, but ok. Are you talking about the metal anchors with the screw built into them? IE, a very sharp screw inside the anchor where you nail the whole assembly into the wall, then tighten the screw? That's what I'm using on mine, although the center of the T is on a stud.

I don't think you'd want to screw into a metal stud in any case...

Two solutions:

EZ Anchors

Toggle bolts (think some people call them molly bolts?)

Either one will support your QSes... I've hung off a shelving standard put into vinylboard with 4 EZ anchors and I weigh about 160. EZ anchors are the cleaner and (IMHO) stronger choice. My QS4s are hanging off 4 each - far overkill.

Edit: Oops... just did a search - molly bolts are the expanding wing-things with the machine screw through them.

It's interesting that they weigh more than planned.

I'm in an old house (100+ years) that is all horsehair plaster and lathe underneath. I've used toggle bolts to pretty good success with various things around the house, but figure I'll need to mount my future QS8s on a "plaque" first, then to the wall to give me a larger surface area to work with. The good news is that I enjoy woodworking and might take the opportunity to custom design a wall mounted shelf with a hole in the bottom for the bottom-mounted woofer.

I'm curious about the weight difference, though. It might not only effect how I mount them, but which ones to order!

::::::: No disrespect to Axiom, but my favorite woofer is my yellow lab :::::::

thanks guys. I wasn't sure if the EZ anchors were strong enough. I've used them before but anytime I hang something from drywall it leaves me a bit uneasy.

Well I got the EZ anchors and a stud finder. I placed them in and it work great. Very secure but I won't let anybody try and hang off of them

I did find it difficult to align the hooks when placing the QS4s onto the bracket. it took several tries and a few marks on the wall to get them in. They look good on the wall but it's too bad it is so difficult to position them.

I hope to have pics up for viewing in a few days but I'm still trying to sort out the wiring and make it look tidy. Most people have the large speaker, large room setup so I think it'll be helpful for some others in a similar situation to see a small room small speaker setup like mine.

Rad - I found the easiest way to hang the QSes it to tilt them back (bottom out, top against the wall), mash your head against the wall to look behind to line the tabs up and then slide them down while still angled.

And don't let go until you're sure they're seated.
