I have just bought a pair of the M22ti's and am trying
to decide which Axiom sub to add (the EP125 or EP175).
My room is of medium size and I listen to most kinds
of music. I'm not a big fan of loud thumping bass, but
I don't want to buy the EP125's and want more. On the other hand,I want even and complete sounding music. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

I currently have the EP125 and it is an excellent sub for music but it is lacking for home theatre. I have been thinking about buying a second sub that will give me the punch and rumble I need. Lord of the Rings made this extremely evident.

I have been told the EP350 would be good for this, however it is very expensive. I have been considering VMPS, Velodyne, and SVS.

Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, U-571 and Saving Ryan's Private are almost orgasmic with the EP350. That's the only one I have experience with though.

I would recommend the EP175 over the 125, you will not be disappointed. It has great bass response, deep and tight. The 175 is actually Joe's (the service managers) favorite sub.

Semi,
it sounds like you have smoothed out the original problems when your Axioms arrived.
How about posting a review of your new system?

I own the EP125 and must say it is tight for music but lacks for movies. I have an Infinity Bu2 sub running with the EP125 for movies. I will be doing a DIY sub pretty soon and have been told this is the way to go to get a great sounding sub with very little cost. This is an option you might want to look into if you have woodworking tools availabe.

flushdraw, from an old bass players'point of view,i can only relate at how i arrived at purchasing a sub.my room is 19' x
13'(medium)i listened to 8-10-12" powered subs(mirage,
purchased before i new about axiom)i found the 8" a little
thin,the 12",when pushed,a little cluttered,and ended up
buying the 10"(very clean, ample power)i listen to 60% theater,40%music,and have not regretted the purchase since.
hope this helps.

I am also in the market for looking for a sub. Although I am an Axiom loudspeaker fan having the M22Ti and QS4 I opted out of the Axiom subs. I am down to the Mirage BPS-150i (bipolar sub), The Difinitive Technology ProSub100TL and the Energy Encore 8 Sub. All 3 go as low and the Axiom and are in the same price range. I think the Mirage BPS-150i will become the outcome only because of its tight dual driving bass driver. it has greater bass extension without being boomy. It is actually tight but fires in two directions. It is a BIPOLAR subwoofer. It also has a MOSFET amplifier which I have seen in some really high end subs.

interesting looking sub(bp150) SATURN,if u get a chance to demo this unit(try john clayton's bass track on"LIVE IN PARIS"-dvd-DIANA KRALL) 2 x 8" drivers vs my 1 x 10"driver
gives about 30%more omph!will be interesting to see if this
sub can blend clayton's bass track into the entire sound
experience without putting the european symphony musicians
back to their respective countries!would appreciate your
findings on this sub if you do demo it.

Say Saturn, just a quick question.. You say you opted out of the Axiom offered subs, but didn't explain why? You say they are all about the same price, and handle about the same range of frequency, so was it the dual drivers on the Mirage that turned your head ? I'm still looking myself, and for some reason the Axiom subs don't get all the praise their mains and surrounds do ? As for the amps, no one seems to have gone into any great detail on the Axiom sub amps either ? Although, I may have missed the thread on that..

LFE ! The rest is just details..

19BASSPLAYER45: Definitely will have to try it out. Thankfully the fiancee has some stuff from her so it would definitely not a be a waste of a purchase. Shell love me just getting a copy .. if I can find it.

MIKEY:I think you answered the questions that I left unanswered. Firstly I do not have the time to demo all the different subs. So my first criteria is based on how many "hits" I get from reviews out there on the net. Like I did when I found the M22ti vs. Paradigm Studio 20's. I ended up with the M22Ti.

I did not want any negative remarks on the Axiom subs..I just did not see much reviews or praise on the sub. Secondly I always look for technology in products. The AMPs in the other sub have been noted. My preference is first music more than movies. That is why I have a Rotel Home Theater amp not a Denon. So based on things I've heard a smaller tight driver moves faster and cleaner than a bigger slower driver...hence the dual 8 inch driver. For sub you want as much bass extension than just in one place ... hence the bipolar idea. Before the mirage I was going to setup 2 x 8 inch subwoofer ... one in the front and one in the back..to disperse a nice tight evenly distributed bass until I found the dual firing Mirage. All high end home theater and properly configured ones actually have 2-3 subs. The use of having 2 small 8 inch sub was a good idea until I actually thought that 2 x 8 inch sub will cost me $1500 cdn. The last years Mirage BPS-150i is being offered to me by my local supplier for $700. I can't complain. Also take a look at the Energy 8 sub...it is sooo tight..great for music..and has a very heavy magnet. Unfortunately 2 x$700 is better spent on the next Rotel amplifier I need to make my 5.1 to 7.1 plus another purchase of 2 x QS4.

Hope this make sense.

Ahh, the plot thickens.. Ok, two drivers, one box.. Will the effect be the same (or close) to that of two subs located in two different locations within the room ? I don't know why I never really gave this much thought before? I'm a firm believer of multi subs within the same room, but finding a nice out of the way place for two cabinets has been a chore.. Hit me over the head with a 2 x 4, eh ?
I also agree that two smaller subs are better in most cases, than one or even two larger ones.. Quality of product being the deciding factor here.. Those mega buck subs are sweet, but down here in the real world, must of us have to beg borrow n beg some more (read wife here) just to keep the lights running in the old home theater, right ?
One last point: You have only one amp, driving one cone, with the 2nd being passive, correct ? Wouldn't you have a bit more to work with given two amps ? Or does the passive set up meet most of those demands ?
Thanks in advance for any additional imput on this..

No Mikey, this is simply two smaller drivers instead of one bigger driver. Both are actively driven in phase. The claim is made that since they're on opposite sides of the enclosure, vibration is reduced, but I don't know that this is very significant.
