I was planning on running a splitter from the lfe. Is this the best way to do this?

That's what I would do if my receiver didn't have two sub outputs. Use an SPL meter to balance the two out.

The H/K I'm currently running has only 1 sub out, and from what I can tell the Dennon 2805 (that will be here Tues.) also has only 1 sub out.
I'm really not sure if I want to run 2 subs but thought I'd give it a listen.
The HSU VTF3 seems to give more than enough bass, but I was just wondering what it would sound like if I added my old Velodyne CHT10.

I'm thinking about two subs too. A splitter is the least expensive way to do it. Other than that you could use an Outlaw ICBM depending on your configuration. It work quit well for me as I have an external amplifier.

Usually if you run two subs, they should be the same sub, even if you're considering two different models from the same company. The Velodyne'll sound quite different than the HSU.

I agree. If I was going to do it, I would go one step further and run identical subs. Same model etc.

I know that is what Dr. Hsu says 2 of the exact same model.Even within the same brand they should be of the same exact model.

Just watched Saving Private Ryan................ I dont need 2 subs!
That movie and the bass involved just scared the livin sh#t out of me.
I know I jumped out of my chair at least 10 times.
Holy crap, I cant even imagine running 2 VTF3s.
I'm looking over at my Discus (fish) tank, I think it scared the sh#t out of them too. Time for a water change there and a boxer change here.
Thanks for the input guys.

That's very cool! Is Saving Private Ryan in DD or DTS (or both) ?

Thanks,

Tom

I have a VHS copy of it. I'm trying to convert all of my tapes to DVD.
Thanks,

Tom

The DTS version is a different than "ususal" version.
I just stumbled across it when I was looking for something else.

Tom,

Do you have any details you could share on convrting the VHS tapes to DVD (equipment / software you are using, etc.)? How is the quality of the DVD when you are done?

I'm not duplicating my VHS tapes. I'm replacing them when I can every time I go to BestBuy or MediaPlay.

I didn't mean to sound like I was converting my tapes to DVD.

I have 2 twin sub systems, and love them! Office uses a Sony TA E9000ES processor with stereo sub outs, main HT system uses an Outlaw ICBM with stereo sub outs. Before I got the Sony, I used a splitter from the sub pre-out, worked fine.

BTW, neither system has matched subs - office has a Klipsch LF10 (1640 watt) and a Dahlquist PDQ 1500 (15") sub, HT uses an SVS 20-39 and a Velodyne CHT10. Mismatched subs don't bother me at all - both systems sound fantastic - very natural for music, explosive for HT. I highly recommend doubling up on your subs.

Your office sounds more tolerant than mine. [EDIT] Probably has better bass too...

I think mix and match subs should work fine. Especially in cases like 2x6s where he runs an SVS PCI with a Velodyne. The out put from the SVS almost feels like mechanical energy while the sealed subs seem to send out those softer low waves.
My mix-matched subs work better than one sub, IMO.
