My new theater project is moving along, and I am at the point where I need to plan for speaker mounting. I have going front projection with a 96" screen, but I want the center channel VP150 to mount to my ceiling, just in front of the screen. The angles of the VP150 make it look like this was designed to do so, but I am trying to find a way to do it without damaging the speaker housing, or at least keeping it minimal.

I do not have my Axioms yet (waiting for shipment from the factory outlet), but I am getting the M60Ti fronts, VP150 center and QS8 surrounds.

Any ideas?

I have never done this, but the Full Metal Bracket (FMB) instructions on the Axiom site talk about driving screws into the back of the speaker and provide pictures showing where to attach. There is a pic for the VP150 which shows the screws going in right beside the binding post block.

To find the instructions, go to "Our Products" on the Axiom home page then "Bracket" then "instructions" then "VP150"...

I assume the VP150 in the picture is right side up and you will want to do the same (so it angles down a bit) but it wouldn't hurt to check with Axiom to be 100% sure about that. I would hate to put a #8 screw through the crossover.

I have the 150 center and the FMB, except mine is wall mounted, tilted slighly downward. the 150, as do other Axiom speakers has a threded alen screw. The FMB attaches this way. The FMB was spcefically designed for the threded cabinet screw (1) only needed, DO NOT put any other screws in the cabinet!! The FMB with this set-up is very strong, But you will want to screw (2 provided) wood screws into the rafter if it were me. If the rafter does not line up, If you want EXACT placement dead center on the 150 is where the threaded screw is, you can use a wood base (I used oak cause it's strong and looks great with my mansfield beach speaker) as the 150 is not a real light speaker. The FMB does ALMOST a full swivel. That is to say whith the FMB attached to the ceiling, the 150 would go almost a full 90 forward, down, and back. I would assume you would mount it so the 150 is forward, thus the bracket is mostly concealed above the 150. It should look real clean. It's a great solution. If you PM me I will email you a pic of mine, seeing as I can't figure out how to pics at this site. Jon

Only the new ones come with the little threaded bit. The older ones you have to drill into.

Yup, Dec 10th they should ship to me, so I should have the "new style" VP150.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of using the Full Metal Bracket like you mention. I will PM you with email info for a picture...

My QS8's are ceiling mounted, inbetween two rafters (with a big piece of cedar wich is actually cut so it sits on top of the rafters)... basically you can hang off the wood with your body weight, those speakers aren't going anywhere

PM me if you want pics

That is assuming you have adequate attic access.
