Most, but not all, here seem to prefer the more diffuse/enveloping sound of the QS series for surround speakers - rather than an easily localizable source like the M22. I'm sure there is somebody here that can explain it better than that, but the speaker companies that seem to really study and understand sound (Axiom, Polk, I'm sure there are others) seem to have similar designs for their speakers that they make solely for surround use.

I believe Steve, "Whatfurrer" here on the forum, uses M22s as surrounds and speaks highly of them. If you're into listening to a LOT of SACD, and DVD-A, then having monoploar speakers, like the M22s, is a good idea. But, if you don't listen to SACDs and DVD-As that much, listen to regular CDs and watch movies a lot, then the QS series speakers would probably be a better choice.

However, even if You DO listen to SACDs and DVD-As, the QS series speakers can do a great job with them. From this article:

"When this speaker is side-wall mounted, the net effect is both an ambient wash of atmospheric sound that mimics what’s heard in large cinemas, coupled with higher-frequency directional acuity provided by each QS speaker’s dual tweeters firing at diagonal angles across the listening area. In many applications, this is an ideal state of affairs, because it preserves ambient and directional effects for Dolby Digital/dts movie soundtrack playback while yielding fairly precise directional information for multichannel DVD-Audio or Super Audio CD (SACD) music listening, with an added ambient component to enhance musical "hall" sound."
