I had an interesting experience over the weekend that I thought I would share (especially for those of you who are considering selling your wives .)
The neighbor built me a solid honey oak custom TV stand last year that matches the rest of our furniture and wood moulding. Over the weekend, he brought over the beautiful, matching custom CD/DVD cabinet he built for me (looks like this one, but it is much wider. Scroll down for larger pictures showing it open).
After I got it all set up, my wife, who hasn't said much during this whole HT madness over the last 18 months said - "I love the speakers, it's too bad they are Boston Cherry. Do they have a finish that would match the rest of the furniture? That would look really nice."
I was stunned. We cranked up the Axiom Custom Shop and she really likes the Buffalo Oak. I'm thinking through it, but selling/shipping 5 speakers and the delay of waiting for custom finish replacements is a bit daunting.

If you're selling, I'M BUYING! What a gal! Does she have any sisters who would be interested in old, ugly, broke, crippled, stupid, curmudgeons? What more could a girl want, I ask you?

Axiom will probably do a trade in for you. Something to consider...

Ray, I'm laughing my arse off here. Tell me again why you didn't have your neighbor/craftsman make the custom cabinetry match the speakers?
You have a great setup and a wonderful spouse. I also understand that kids and dogs like you.
Pull the trigger quick before she changes her mind. Get a EP500 to match while you're at it - I'm sure she'd like that better than the big, black SVS.
When you want to unload the VP100, let me know.

Tom, the custom stuff matches the furniture we already had, as well as the color of all the mouldings/wood trim. Didn't give that much thought when I originally ordered the speakers. The addition of the 2 rather sizeable pieces has caused the mismatch to be a bit noticeable, which is why she brought it up. More of an "Oh by the way" thing rather than a major problem causing us to wring our hands. Still worthwhile to look into.
ken - excellent suggestion. I've called Axiom and sent an email off. I'm just hoping that they have a program that's better than trading in a car at a dealership!
Jack - I'm so sorry. My wife is an only child. They only had one opening such as you described and I fit it perfectly. Except, of course, for the ugly part.

Good god, man. That's your wife you're talking about. If I ever talked about my wife's hoel in public, she'd never let me hear the end of it....

Well, I heard back from Axiom. They don't have a formal trade-in program, but they are going to see what they can do for me. It would be alot simpler if I could get someone nearby interested in a purchase from the house (and who would be OK with waiting for the 6 weeks it would take for the custome sepakers to show up).
There is one piece of excellent news, however. Apparently all of the trial returns that go back to Axiom are shipped to Buffalo. Every 3-4 weeks they load a truck and ship them back to Dwight. My expense to Buffalo from Rochester would be pretty cheap, $50-$60 bucks.

Got a little feedback from Axiom and ran some preliminary numbers. Apparently my bride was thinking this was going to be some sort of a gift from Axiom. When she saw that the transaction would be much more than she was expecting, "we" decided that the Boston Cherry looks pretty good in the room with the oak.
Women - you can't live with them!!
The info from Axiom was very iffy and ball parkish, and I just sent them an email to stop chasing and save them some time. Once again though, their Customer Service shines.
BBIBH - what does that mean? Hopefully it was something in a humorous vein.
