at first i thought everyone was ignoring my other post but now i see that it was messed up. anyway i will pose the question again i will be going with the m60 vp150 qs8X2 se-up and am not sure what sub to go with of the 2 mentioned in the title. i heard the outlaw at he show in nyc last spring and it sounded good (though they had three running in tandem so it could be misleading) but i thin i like the idea of the sub matching the rest of the system im not sure what to do both are about the same price also the hsu has peaked my interest for a few $ more. any advice would be appreciated

If your thinking of an hsu sub you might consider looking at the stf-3($600), or the vtf-3($699). If your room isn't unusually large, then one of these will work. I have the stf-2(10 inch driver) in a 13x18x9 room and am more than satisfied. It serves my home theater purpose well.

Here I go setting myself up again, but I think that HSU makes the Outlaw sub for them and it is a rebadged STF-3. Corrections to this information are welcome .

Ray....close, but not exactly true. Slightly different configuration, and, although the specs do not reveal it, they are tuned slightly different.
(BTW, did you get my PMs about Xerox?)

It’s not the same. Doesn’t even look the same. HSU was contracted to help Outlaw build it, that’s all.

I like my LFM-1. It’s very musical, which is what I use it for. But it also does mighty fine for movies. I’ve got mine in a pretty large area (28X32), and can actually feel it thump just about anywhere in the room, and I have it turned down to 60 with the volume about half way. If I crank it up, it rattles windows. If you want to stay with a square sub, I’d recommend the LFM-1. The other sub that I would seriously look at getting is the SV PB2-ISD. Or, the EP 500. You also might want to look at the AV123’s new 12” subs.

I think I just did a ramble there. To get back to your specific question, I would most definitely take the Outlaw over the EP 350. This is just my opinion, but I do not think there is any comparison between those two.

Here’s a good comparative review of the LFM-1 and PB2-ISD. http://www.audioholics.com/productreviews/loudspeakers/SVS_subsPB2-ISD_OutlawLFM-1_1.php

I just got my HSU VT3-MK2 in Rosewood for $699 and can undoubtedly say that this sub is excellent and will easily outperform many subs costing as much as three times.

This unit has a short term peak power of 1400 watts and without even tuning it properly it sounds excellent with music or HT. I can’t wait to set it up properly; also the VTF subs give you maximum flexibility to play it in loud vs. optimum mode

I looked at the outlaw after reading reviews and advice from fellow members went with HSU and has absolutely no regrets at all.

I own the VTF-2, and must say I find the tuning option odd. These things can play so dang loud as it is, I don't know why you'd ever need/want to tune it for loudness over depth.

I agree in totality - spiffnme

HSU subs are really very loud and I will probably never play it in maximum mode as the optimum mode is very clean sounding bass.

HSU rates their product very conservatively; it’s only when I read the manual that I learnt about the 1400 watt short term peak power. Great overall product.

It has a much more pronounced grain pattern, and the red is much lighter.

I've found black box subs hide away pretty nicely.

Nice-looking sub, although the color of that pic looks a yellowed, probably from the fluorescent lighting. With a little adjustment in Photoshop...

There we go. Looks like it's really close the Axiom custom Bleached Maple finish:

ahhh....OK....thought it was some special trick.

I just ordered a real end table for my living room and moved my sub back into the corner. I am now contemplating a TN1220 in the corner. It would be out of the way and I can try to dress it up.

Just a few things on the 1220, Cause I looked at them very closely, They look great because they are only 12" in dia. unlike my 16" SVS's. tall slender cylinder. they are PASSIVE only, as you probably know. I think they look better in pairs, more balanced, and obviously more punch. Very musical sub. Heres the weird thing. If you get them from HSU (free shipping) its 200 bucks cheaper to by them seperate. That is one 1220 and one amp at 1,000, then one more 1220 at 499.00 = 1499.00. The exact "package" 2 1220's and the same amp = 1697.00. just tjought I'd point that out, I called them and they confirmed that you do save 200.00 bucks that way by NOT buying their "complete package" go figure, but hey 200 bucks is something, just an FYI. Also, they are very top heavy, top woofer, tall and narrow with (3) bottom feet. Best in corners, no kids or cats recommended. You don't want that woofer crashing the floor on these.

The price on the Hsu 1220 is the same if you buy them seperate or as a package both ways will cost $1697.00.The 1220 with the 500 watt amp was $1000 for only a short time it is now back up to $1198.00 add in another 1220 at $499.00 and it's 1697.00 same as the dual package.

OOPS, you are right, just went to their sight, heck that was only a few weeks ago. That was indeed a special for a certain time only. When I called they did not specify it was a special. 1697.00 either way!!

I certainly don't want to hijack a thread here for something completely irrelevent, but does anyone else NOT see JoninFloridas' Avatar, or am I the only one due to some (more) obscure Norton settings?

Joninflorida has a "[/IMG]" string appended to his avatar. If he removes the [/IMG] from his avatar setting it will work fine :

It's gonna be a cool avatar once he fixes it

I guess beauty is all in the eye of the beholder.

That top makes it look just like my mother's step on garbage canister that's in her kitchen .

I'm sure it sounds awesome though.

This is pretty close to the garbage pail in question.
