I have just studded my basement AV to-be room and am getting ready to wire. I am confused about how to set up the room for best usage. The room measures 13'Wx28'L, but at one end is a bay that measures 8'Wx4D.(room would look basiclly like a '7' from above). If I set the widescreen in the bay, facing out, my viewing room is roughly 17'(13+4)D x 10'W. Is this large enough for a 5.1 system? The other method would be to place my equipment on the 13' wall and have 28' of depth, but have the bay area off to the side. What can I expect from this configuration? I've already decided on the Axiom Midi Home Theatre system (I think) and need to decide on a receiver. I have questions of which wiring to bury in the wall, should I run power directly from the panel for A/V equipment seperate from lights and receps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bill

Welcome to the forum Corkscrew. I think using the epic midi system along the 13x28 wall would be quite a stretch. Thats alot of space to fill with the smaller m2's. The first room dimensions(17x10) you gave would be more ideal and is certainly large enough for a 5.1 system. I can't answer your questions on wiring, but others here are finishing, or have finished their rooms recently and they should be able to give you some good ideas.

I found my M2-based HT system sounded fantastic when I used about 2/3 of a 13x23 room (ie pretty much as good as M60s) but started to seem a bit strained when I moved the seating area back to use the whole 13x23 room.

If you are sitting 6-8 feet from the speakers the M2s will probably be great in any orientation. My first setup had the M2s on the 13' wall with a seating position about 8 feet away (down the 23' axis) and they were fine for anything but ear-bleeding rock.
