Does anyone have information pertaining to the evolution of the current model of speakers? More specifically, I’m interested to know if the M60s/M80s have evolved over the past few years. Some manufactures change their model numbers when they make enhancements, others simply say version 2, 3, etc. What about Axiom? I’m sure the M60s/M80s have changed since their initial production. But I’m curious to know the truth. Any ideas? Also, just when did the M60s/M80s originally hit the market?

Thanks!

The only noted change that I'm aware of is the change to the SE version a couple of years back. That was a manufacturing convenience change to revise the radiused up front corner th at the chamfers to the sides. Made the vinyl adhere better. They also changed the sticker in the back. The total listing of the changes was noted in this forum at the time and pretty well defined in the follow-up Soundstage review of the M3; the review where the M3 was inducted by them as their new low cost reference monitor! Another change may be in the cross-over network; For the holidays, Ian gave us an M50 and M60 frequency responce curve for comparrison but also mentioned that the curves previously published are no longer valid for the M80. (or words to that effect,I think) I believe it was Alan who also mentioned that the speakers are constantly being tested and improved as necessary for better sound qualities thru double-blind listening tests. I hope that my statements are accurate and that I'm not inadvertantly stepping on anybodys toes.

Oops, it was Alan that made both of the statements mentioned above. Thank you for that info, it helps a lot in making informed decisions. And "Thanks again" to Ian for the graphs, and for showing up again on these threads, most of us who have been here for a while have missed you and Amie as it was in the "old days"

Hi, I purchased my 60ti Se at a local retailer in 2003, when i set them up I noticed that one of them only had a single port on ths back, and if memory serves me the dual woofers were 6.25 as opposed to 6.50 and my serial #'s didn't match, needless to say that speaker was returned to the retailer for the proper one.

Hope this helps.

Interesting. A picture appeared on the Axiom site a few weeks ago of what appeared to be an M60 with a single port on the back, and it launched a big thread speculating about new products from Axiom.

Sounds like earlier M60s had the single port then...

I remember seeing a pic of the old version M80's. The driver arrangement was tweeter, mid, tweeter, mid, woofer, woofer IIRC. I dont remember is the cabinet was different but i think the SE models had the addition of the angled corners.

Yates28:

Well, that was interesting. It appears the 60s have evolved--and the 80s for that matter. Some may wonder why I ask. It's simple: I'm looking to see just how much both speakers have evolved over a few years. This helps show how Axiom has continued to improve the overall sound of both speakers. Rather than make a new model number, they evolve the existing speaker--or at least it appears that way.
