I very stupidly sold my M60s via ebay to a guy in Alabama. Stupid because I wish I still had them and because FedEx dropped one of them on its head.
Long story short, they picked up the damaged M60, completely destroyed it and returned it without comment to the buyer. Boy was he bent. To their credit, FedEx is sending me a check to cover the buyer's purchase price and shipping costs, but now he's stuck with one M60.
Moral of the story: don't sell good speakers; if you do, make sure you have the original packaging (though it may not have helped in my case) or insist on local pickup and settle for less $.

.Am I reading this right that he got a refund for the 60s you sent him,then you got the refund from fedx.If so no one really lost anything.He can always buy a single M60 for $450.

wid, everything will work out OK, but it has been a nightmare. They shipped out on April 18 - what is it now 5-12? Lots of emails, phonecalls, and paperwork. I get plenty of that at work.

I shouldn't have sold them. I must have been drinking at the time I listed them. I would have cancelled the auction but folks were bidding on them pretty quickly.
At any rate, if I were to reorder Axioms (which is a distinct possibility as I retain QS8s, VP150 and an EP350) I'd probably go high-gloss M80s for a big room or H-G M3s for a small room. Nothing at all wrong with M60s, just my tax return burning a hole in my pocket.

Doubly naughty, Mark. Selling the M60s and giving the federal government an interest-free loan by getting a tax refund.

I see a set of M80s in your future.Try them I think you will be impressed.

my dad was the same way. when i graduated high school in 1989, my dad decided he wanted me to have his old beat-up 1936 F1 Ford pickup. it had been sitting in the garage with crap stacked up on it for over 10 years.. and as we start to take the piles of boxes and junk off, i noticed that half the boxes were still stamped with DOD stickers from when they were inspected for shipment when we moved back from Italy in 1977. so, for twelve years, those boxes had sat there, untouched, and probably unopended. i remember asking "why do you keep this crap".. and his answer, sounding as sane as possible, "cause i may need it someday".

how the HELL would he know if he needed them..? they hadnt been touched in 12 years. crazy old man!!

Actually, I keep all the boxes for my video equipment and electronics.

I've found that with good photos, descriptions, the original manuals and boxes, I can get 50% higher bids for used equipment on eBay than what other, comparable equipment sells for.

Yeah, we recently had to kill off the little packrats living inside us. Finally went through the back bedroom and closet and got rid of a ton of stuff. Fortunately, one of my coworkers was having a yard sale...

I keep boxes for some electronics as I will eventually give it away or sell it (PS2 and Xbox and iboox for example). However, you are right on the money there John. I use moving for cleaning out crap. "Oh, that's been unopened for 3 years." Or "That's been at the back of the closet for 3 years." "Time to go." Luckily, where I live I can leave anything on the sidewalk and it's gone within minutes, if not hours.

Oh and I graduated 89 too. Woot! Did you ditch school to watch Heathers too?

Sorry bigjohn, I can't help myself. I come from a long line of packrats. My father still has the original carburetor he replaced in his 1973 Camaro - just in case he buys another one and needs the part!

In all seriousness, it can be a very problematic psychological disorder. I wish more people could/would/ avail themselves of help for this one. It would minimize those articles about rescue workers not being able to get into houses filled to the brim with old newspapers...

Mark, I remember you oogling the M80s in that high gloss finish awhile back. Maybe that is the way to go?

Ken, this reminds me of my first job right after the Army with a local pesticide company, we had jobs in apartment buildings and condos where the association contracted us to do the whole building, we held the keys to each unit...some of the stuff I saw. I remember going into one particular aprtment and I couldn't barely walk in the front door, the bathtub was even full of crap, and I do mean full to the rim.

I was actually surprised how much of this I saw. Needless to say that is one job I didn't have for long.

You're right of course. I didn't mean to be frivilous or make light of a potentially serious psychological condition or dangerous situation.

Dad keeps his junk in a small barn well away from the house. And we don't accumulate paper products - we recycle them.

Oh, I wasn't objecting to you making light of it, I was just bringing it up as a topic for dicussion.

Hey, Martha Stewart has a great solution for boxes! When you buy something new, you take a sticky note and a thick felt-tip pen, and you write the 'throw-away' date on it. So if the product has a five year warranty and you buy it today, you'd write 'May 2010'. You also staple the bill of sale to the box at the time, so if you do need to do anything you have what you need right there. Then when you're in your basement putting a new box in, you check the dates on the other ones. Seems like a good idea!

TNTguy, I'm pretty happy with what I have now.
I was considering using the unused master bedroom, which is an ell (?) out from the main living areas, as a potential second HT. Also thinking about the possibility of a cigar lounge/poker room in the extra space in the garage. So it is clear that it was very stupid to let the M60s go at this point.

If so, I did sell my M60s on ebay. I regretted listing them pretty quickly, but the resale value was impressive, so I'm OK. I replaced them with MA S8s which are very nice, also.
And in case I didn't make it clear earlier, I am very impressed with FedEx for making good on the speaker they damaged. Less impressed with their handling of the package, but you have to give them credit for standing behind their work.
