hi
Just got delivery of the epic grand master (M22Ti, VP100, EP175, Qs8). Cant wait to listen to them, but dont have a receiver yet
Any advice on the receiver? My room is not that big (12x15x10h). I was thinking of the sony DA1ES. I have heard that receiver brands differ in their handling of different frequenies. For e.g the yamahas handle midrange very well. Is that true? (performance with music is more important to me than movies).
I am hoping there are quite a few of you out there using the Epic grand master system or atleast the (M22Ti's + Ep175) who can provide some advice.
Thanks!

Ash, forget what you may have heard about different brands of receivers handling different frequencies in a different manner(e.g. "warm", "bright", etc.). They all provide audibly flat and undistorted response when operating within their power capabilities. Look for the features you want at the best price within your budget. If you're looking at $400 or less also consider the Kenwood 6070 and Pioneer 912.

Respectfully disagree, JohnK. All receivers are not the same, and do not provide the same flat response across the frequency range. For example, I had a TOTL Sherwood receiver, terrible for music. It would be easy to offend a lot of folks who are fans of their brands, but, at least in my experience, the inexpensive receivers which do very very well with music as well as home theater include the Panasonic HE200, Yamaha, Onkyo, and some of the Sonys. (STRDB1070 and the ES line).

Enjoy the Music. Trust your ears. Laugh at Folks Who Claim to Know it All.

I'm using the M22ti's, and VP150 right now. I'll be adding the QS8's soon. I've just upgraded from a receiver to separates, but in the past I always bought Onkyo receivers, and have always loved them. Just my $.02

If you're interested in going the separates route, I just did some exhaustive research, and finally decided on the Rotel RB-1075 amp (120watts - 5 channels) and the Rotel RSP-1075 processor. I bought both used for a just under $2000. This combo has garnered tremendous online praise and repeated rave reviews. If you want to upgrade that to 7.1 you'd need a second amp. I'd recommend the Rotel 1070. You can probably find one of those for another $500.

I agree with johnk that they all provide flat response

however, i would look into a denon receiver such as the 1803 or 1603 or 1403 before a kenwood or pioneer.
