Hi, I've been using my M22ti for over a year and still like them very much, recently got a 37" HDTV and a marantz SR4600 receiver, going to slowly build up the HT, first thing first...my current Infinity Primus C25 center channel has got to go, as I do not think it match too well with M22ti. I'm trying to decide if I should get the VP100 or the VP150...room is 11'W x 13'L x 8'H, main and center speakers are 6ft away from where I'm sitting, surround will be 5ft. Cost is not a deciding factor for the center channel, it will sit on a custom made stand situated right on top of the TV. Any suggestion? ;-)

Forgot to mention I also have a SVS PB12 to handle down low, crossover is set at 80hz low pass on sub, and 80hz high pass on the rest of the speakers, will the VP150 overpower the M22ti if I were to get it instead of the VP100?

From 6 feet away in a smaller room, you should have no problem with the VP100.

Ben, welcome back. The VP150 wouldn't "overpower" the M22s, because you calibrate the speakers so that they match in volume. Also consider a vertical M2 for the center, which would match the M22s very well indeed and have very wide and smooth horizontal dispersion.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I have the VP 100 in a room of similar size with M22's and there are no problems at all, plays plenty loud and perfectly matched just as the VP150 would be, take your pick. If you have enough room above or below to handle the the bigger speaker then I would get the 150 just to avoid upgradeitis, as you mention cost is not an issue.

I've had no problems with the VP100 in my room, which is just a bit bigger then yours (11'x17'x7.5'). Either speaker should work great in your situation. The only reasons I can think of to get the VP150 would be if you ever plan on moving into a much larger room, you like to listen at very loud levels, or just want to avoid upgraditis. From what I've heard, both speakers sound pretty much the same until the volume goes up a lot.

Hello,

I also started out with M22's, and only got a VP150 about two months ago. I love the VP150, and I actually enjoy listening to music upconverted to 5.1 rather than stereo because I like the sound out of the VP150 better than M22's. Everything just sound clearer, especially in the higher range. I am not sure if the VP150 was calibrated this way, or this is due to the fact that it has 2 tweeters.

This brings me to something I've pondered in these last 2 months:
There are a lot of people here recommending verticle M2 or M22 for center. How come nobody is recommending 2x VP150s instead of M22's? Or even VP150 all the way across the front? It seems to make sense to me since I like the sound of VP150 better... Anyway, has anyone or Axiom experimented with this? I wonder how it would sound...

This is the one thing so far I think JohnK and I disagree on. I tested out an M22 as a centre, and in my testing, in my room, at my altitude above sea level, etc... I found the VP150 had better horizontal dispersion than the M22 as a centre.

I wonder how two VP150s standing upright would sound vs. M22s...

Not that good, they VP150 was designed to lay horizontally. Its like placing your M22's on their side instead of vertically. Try that tonite and let me know how it sounds. You will then get an idea of how the VP150 would sound if placed vertically.

There was also a discussion around here somewhere regarding using the VP150 as mains. I tried a search with no success.

If I'm not mistaking (very well could be though) didn't Alan post not too terribly long ago about listening to a couple of VP150s being used as stereo speakers and sounding very well being used in that capacity? Can't remember if they were placed vertical or horizontal.
