Hello all,
I'll be installing a pair of in-wall/on-wall M2's soon, and I had a question about mounting height. I understand that mounting at a level roughly equal to the middle of the screen is ideal and that 5-6 feet from the floor is another recommended alternative. If I were to choose, say, 5 feet from the floor as the mounting height, does that mean that the bottom of the speaker is 5 feet from the floor, the middle of the speaker is 5 feet from the floor, or the top of the speaker is 5 feet from the floor? Just wondering.
Thanks for your help, Housefamous

I don't think you are going to notice a huge difference in 5-6ft. I always measure from the center of the tweeter. I actually think the best location is to try and have the tweeters at ear level when seated, but that is not always possible for everyone.
How far back will you be sitting and how far apart will the speakers be from each other?
Welcome by the way..

Thank you, SirQuack. Our room is not good for acoustics in that we'll be sitting greater than twice the distance between the speakers. We chose wall speakers for aesthetics and because we have two little ones who would probably mess with and/or knock over stand mounted speakers. I was mainly curious as to what reference point Axiom intended. Center of the tweeter sounds logical.

HF, welcome. The general suggestion is to have the main speakers at a level where the tweeters are about the same level as your ears. With the M2s, this would put the bottom of the enclosure about 2 1/2' up.
The 5-6 feet from the floor recommendation that you mention most likely referred to the surrounds, not the mains. The surrounds play ambience and some effects which usually sound better coming from a bit above ear level, so a common suggestion is to have them mounted about 2-3' above the ears. This doesn't apply to the mains.

House, as I mentioned many people don't want to mount the speakers at ear level when seated, it just does not work out for everyone's situation. An example would be those that have a wall mounted plasma/lcd television. In my upstairs living room, the bottom of our plasma is at about ear level when sitting on the couch. Unless I had small stands, there is no way my m22's tweeters could be at ear level. The tweeters are probably about a foot above that or in the 4'6" or so range and they sound fantastic. So I guess what I'm saying is do what works for you, just don't get to crazy.

OMG If you don't strap and level a laser pointer accurately to the side of your speakers exactly at tweeter height and use it to aim the tweeters to exactly your ear height, you will never experience the nirvana of..... The heavenly sound of.... Ummm, a veil will not be ...... errr
Your right. Crazy is crazy.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Thanks again, SirQuack. I agree with that approach and won't get crazy over it. My little ones make me crazy enough as it is.
