The manual makes it look like it does, but a recent thread on AVS reports a few people having problems.

I have very few composite sources, save for the Wii, and am trying to decide if I need to make a dedicated composite run to the projector or if the Denon can convert it to HDMI as well.

My plan now is to run on SVGA cable (for HT PC), an IR emitter cable, and HDMI, and that's about it. I won't need a 12v trigger as I've got no plans for a motorized screen. If there's anything else I'm missing, please let me know. Going to start the runs next weekend (and ordering cables now) \:\)

Thanks in advance folks!

Jason

The only thing I have hooked up to my 3808 via composite is my orignal xbox. I have HDMI going from my denon to my display.

I have not used my xbox tons (maybe a few hours total) but I Have not noticed any problems with the composite-> HDMI conversion.

I am only converting it to 720p.

I think I turned off video scaling the other day though and am letting my TV convert things to it's native 720p resolution.

Thanks for confirming! I appreciate any advice on the 2nd half of my post on cables to run as well for anyone else who has done this recently.

I might add that the denon seemed to do a good job of the 480i-> 720p conversion too.

I just turned it off b/c I think my tv displays the 480i composite signal just fine.

I think the faroudja(sp?) chip in the denon is pretty good, but I have heard it is not that great for upscaling to 1080p.
(video processors with the reon or realta chip are supposedly much better)

Anyway, The denon 3808 is a very good receiver and I see no reason at all why you would need to make another run for composite cables.

I can't comment on the other stuff since I have never set up a projector or a HT PC so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Why are you running the Wii in composite? It is capable of progressive scan and the component cables for it to run in progressive are not expensive and then you can let the 3808 upconvert the 480P signal to the 720P you need for the projector.

The Wii in 480P is much better.

Jason - when you need cables, monoprice.com should be on your short list for shopping. ;\)

All I can say is that my Toshiba A2 does a noticeably better job of up converting DVDs to 1080i, than my Denon 3806 did. Even my wife mentioned it, unprompted.

Other than that, I love my Denon receiver any any upgrade will likely come with the same name.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.
