I wonder if anybody knows a good recording of Rhapsody in Blues by Gershwin. Although I’ll like a good sounding CD, I’m most interested on an excellent performance.

Thanks,
Jaime

Jaime, I have two and have heard nine or ten others. In my view the best performance is still by Bernstein, who plays with a swaggering romanticism, frequently taking considerable liberties with the marked tempos. This is available coupled with American in Paris and Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite on Sony 63086. I'm not sure what sources for CDs you use in PR, so I won't bother to suggest a specific place to get it, as I sometimes do here in recommending classical CDs. Another version that could be considered has a more straightforward performance on London 473 844 with Maazel, coupled with American and an excellent Porgy and Bess orchestral suite at a bargain $8 or so.

Cool John! Now I know who to bug when I have questions about classical. Know of any great recordings (CD/SACD/DVD-A/DTS) of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto? I have it on vinyl by several (Heifetz, Perlman, Oistrakh)but now I want to see how it translates into digital.

Thanks, John. I'm not familiar with the violinist but I'll give it a try.
