I downloaded a CD made up with various deep bass tones and songs, and every time I change to the next song I get a snapping sound coming from my speakers. Does anyone know what is causing this? This doesn't happen with any other CDs, but then again I don't have any that are exclusively heavy bass test/demo songs.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Probably just the way the CD was created, just a guess. I get something similar when using Youtube on my HTPC.

I figured so but wasn't sure, as long as it won't damage my speakers.

I wouldn't use it if it doesn't sound right. An over driven woofer can have a popping, snapping sound.

Is it there at all volumes? Likely the CD.
There only at loud volumes? Likely overdriving a cone-STOP!

Between tracks? Again, likely the CD.

My feeling is that if a speaker is made to reproduce distortion, it can be damaging to the speaker at louder volumes. This is because you're asking the speaker to reproduce a truncated, sharp-edged waveform.

Or, maybe I'm wrong. But I still wouldn't do it to my speakers!

I'm not sure whether or not it happens between songs, at lower volumes etc. but I'll ditch it anyway.
