Are there any quality "screw-on" interconnects for component (BNC or RCA) and sub (RCA) cables, or is soldering a necessity for a good finish?

Let's just say, for the sake of argument ya know, that I haven't a friggin clue about doing anything beyond speaker cables...should I have a professional installer do the work for the other stuff?

Sam, is it that you already have some bulk coax and are thinking about how to put on the connectors? If not, why not just buy some inexpensive prepared cables and simply plug them in as usual?

Indeed, bulk cable already installed behind drywall. I'm just trying to figure out if I can do the rest of the work myself, or if paying a professional to do it is advisable.

Radio Shack and Parts Express both offer good "screw in" (compressions) connectors. You don't really need to involve anybody to do this for you it is really simple. Plus - doing it yourself gets you extra credit on yor Man Card!

I wanted to replace the cheap woofer in my inexpensive sub after my youngest Grand daughter grabbed a handfull of reciever volume one evening. So I logged into "Parts Express"...

Instead of a cheap speaker, I ended up with a moderately expensive Peerless driver, a plate amplifier, a good chunk of sewer pipe, various bits and pieces, and a pretty good understanding of subwoofer alignment theory.

Bottom line: Dive in and do it yourself,(if you feel up to it) I'ts a lot of fun-and is what this hobby is all about. IMHO

(OK, so my sub dosen't exactly sound "great" but it's better'n what I had before, and it was fun to build)-(Bottom, bottom line? I may use the plate amp to power an SVS Cylinder sometime in the near, or not so near, future)

But, that's another story...

Hi, I have IC's with Connex WBT screw connections that seem to work fine at only $6 a pair. It all depends on your budget though. They can be found for up to $100+ a pair.

Well, thanks in part to your input I dove in to the Parts Express chasm and purchased compression connectors (BNC and RCA for component video and subwoofer cables) and the tools necessary to install them. Things look very straightforward and the connectors seem high quality.

I'll be putting things together this week and I'll let you know how it goes.
