i was just browsing around when i saw the link on the front page indicating that axiom will be increasing their price. did anyone else notice it. curious as to know why?? maybe a supply and demand thing?? I guess there is no better time to buy speakers then now.

See post immediately below yours...

Materials and shipping costs increase, basically.
Posted By: Tharkun Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/09/06 06:16 AM
From Amie:
"Canadian prices will be up later in the day - it's mostly shipping cost increases, and metal costs which have risen dramatically. The Canadian price increase is slightly less though to take the dollar into account".

IMO, still a good buy even with the price increase. Glad that I already have my set.
Posted By: SirQuack Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/09/06 03:20 PM
Not a big deal, I bought my Axiom's a month before the last price increase. If they never raised prices they would eventually go out of business, as their supliers will continue to raise costs.

Posted By: jahko Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/09/06 11:53 PM
I think the price increase is not the way to go. In this day and age keeping your prices competative (ie. lower) by reducing your operating cost is the way of today.

Why do you think that companies like Westjet are successful and companies like Air Canada had to go through a drastic remodelling to stay alive - their prices crashed down to those of Westjet's....

So Axiom get with the times!!

Ya know,...normally I would tend to agree about price increases!

This time,...hmmmmm....I wonder?

Now, if it ain't just a joke; and Ian DOES wander in and out of the test chambers spending the big bucks developing a new.....!!

Posted By: Tharkun Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 12:14 AM
Axiom is located in a very remote part of ON, so I doubt that Axiom could have a less costly overhead. Perhaps Axiom could have thier line of speakers produced outside of North America and cut some costs, would you prefer that option ?
Posted By: Abyss Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 12:46 AM
I’m surprised to see people complaining at such a small price increase from 10$ on the M2i to 150$ on the Epic 80. Everything is going up except for wages! There is no doubt, imo, this has more to do with shipping than anything else. The EP 500 alone is 72lbs. and Axiom's lenient return policy has probably been abused to some extent and let’s not forget that Axiom is in Canada, so they also have taxes/duties to pay for the U.S.A. customers. However without the return policy I know that I, as well as many others, would not have ordered the speakers. It’s a double edged sword but I think Axiom still has dollar for dollar the best value in audio. Materials may have gone up as well but I think the majority of it has to do with shipping. Just be thankful that Axiom’s prices aren’t rising like food, gasoline or power costs.
Posted By: HomeDad Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 01:04 AM
I'm sure alot of it has to do with shipping. Fedex increased their net average rate 3.5% in Jan. Axiom has waited a month and a half to bring these increases to the consumer.
Posted By: blackorp Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 01:08 AM
correct me if i am wrong but i don't think axiom charges duties or taxes on american buyers. Taxes are only for canadians and do not apply to americans. As for duties, unless the material came from industrial countries, and not from north america, then there might be taxes. Even still, duties are the responsibiliy of u.s. customs, and not axiom's.

well, i am just glad that i ordered my axiom setup weeks ago:) but now, i am tempted to upgrade to the m80s before the new price sets in.
Posted By: cgolf Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 01:14 AM
Listen, I'm in the construction industry and we can't even get our subs to guarantee prices on some critical supplies and materials for more than 30 days because of all the increases and unstability. Axiom's increase is minimal when you look at the big picture. Their products and service are well worth the small increase they just imposed!!!
Posted By: Legairre Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 01:23 AM
The m80 has increased 19% with not one but two price increases in less than a year. Around last April they went from $1100 to $1240 now $1240 to $1300. Way to many speakers in the $1500 range that will be $1300 out the door with dealer discounting and even better or equal sound quality and with better construction using materials like real wood veneer. I like Axiom but they are now going to be going up against brands that people didn't even consider before due to pricing. I say it's a mistake but thats just me.

Posted By: SirQuack Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 01:29 AM
I agree Abyss, what the heck is the problem with all of you? If you don't like their prices, which are outstanding for what you get, go buy BOSE and pay more. In reality Axiom could charge a lot more than they do, but because they don't, that is why they are so successful. I'm amazed that people have issues with this, just go work in any industry and stop flipping burgers, and maybe you'll get it...
Posted By: warfer21 Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 02:06 AM
It seems like EVERYTHING lately has gone up in price.
This does not surprise me and is understandable.

my 2 cents
Posted By: Abyss Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 03:00 AM
blackorp, I’m not sure either. I said taxes/duties because I wasn’t sure how to label it, I tried to imply duties or taxes at the border. I know Axiom doesn’t charge tax to U.S.A. customers but I was not sure about any duties that might apply. I agree with you sirquack, Axiom could charge more and I think if they did they would still be here tomorrow doing just fine.

Either way this is just laughable to see people complain about price increases on audio gear. When the Denon 3805 first came out last year it premiered at about 100$ less than the 3806 did this year but I saw no mention of that. My satellite went up 3 times in 3 years but I don’t post anywhere about it and I haven’t cancelled it. I want my HD channels and my movie channels, it’s a luxury and I’ll pay for it.

Once again, everything is going up but thanks to the power of capitalism, you don’t have to purchase anything that you feel is over priced.

Posted By: bigwill2 Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 06:48 AM
I hear you, even if nobody else does.

Lower prices may equate to higher volume. It worked for Taco Bell a while back.

In-n-Out is my favorite company (Axiom a close second ;p). Superior product, competitive prices, quality employees making higher than market wages. All they need now is to get you through the drive thru a little quicker (you folks who don't live in the western US really need to visit In-n-Out on your next trip).
Posted By: Tharkun Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 01:55 PM
As Amie mentioned in her post, shipping costs have increased, most likely a little thing called a fuel sur-charge. I notcied the increase the last time I shipped vai UPS.
So how about Axiom not offering free shipping, and also when new customers decide to exchange speakers in the first 30 days, perhaps the customer should pay the shipping cost for thier indecision.
I agree with several members on the forum, this discussion of the small cost increase is absurd in my opinion. If one thinks that Axiom is simply increasing costs because if increased sales, or to fund a new jet for Ian, they do not understand how Ian operates the Axiom company.
If cost increases of Axiom products is going to be an issue for some, I wish them well in finding a company that does not do it.

Re: jahko

This is really quite silly, unless you were born under a rock or just landed on this planet you should have a good understanding of the impact that oil/gas prices prices are having on everybody.

Our local municipality is looking at a 4.5-5.5% tax increase that is driven primarily by the cost of fuel. It imapcts everything from the cost of running buses, to heating buildings, to the cost of asphalt, to the cost of food for the various social services they run.

I've been at Axiom's factory and was very impressed with what a efficient operation they are running.

Other companies don't exist in a vacuum, I'm sure their prices will be impacted as well. You look at a product and rate it's worth against the competition. Axiom IMHO is still a value especially when you factor in the outstanding customer service.

Just pray we don't end up with a war in Iran.

...oh yes and one final thing to my rant at least they were classy enough to let us know about it in advance

Ford is absolutely correct, most industries in North America have been greatly impacted by rising fuel and gas costs. Both major Canadian railroads - CN & CP charge a 10% fuel surcharge on ag commodities that has been in effect only for about the past year. Trucking companies all have fuel surcharges in effect of between 10 and 15%. The majority of this surcharge has gone into effect over the past year. I can understand completely why couriers charges are increasing and as a result why Axiom would have to increase their charges. Seems more than reasonable to me.
Posted By: Tharkun Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 03:21 PM
One more point of Axiom and the shipping policy as for delivery time. Why is it when one places an order at Axiom, you recieve it with in just a few days. (no more than 3 at most, usually, excluding weekends) when the same shipper takes 5 days for less of a mileage distance within the US and no customs to deal with.
So to aid in more of a cost efective manor, would customers settle for a longer waiting time to recieve their speakers, or an insignificant increase in price to have them much sooner. I vote for the later.
Posted By: Wid Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 03:41 PM
Being in the construction trade all of our prices had to be increased. We had a sharp rise in the cost of fuel, asphalt, concrete and the price for natural gas for the shop. Do you guys suppose we just absorbed the cost to keep prices down for the consumer, no, we passed them all on to the costumers end. Hell we even have to pay a fuel surcharge on getting the garbage picked up.

When I first started to visit this forum it seemed like we all were surprised on how little Axiom charged for their wares. Now after a couple of increases in price we see people pissing and moaning that they are charging too much. Like was said before Axiom could take their business over to China and we would all benefit from lower prices. I personally would rather they didn't and pay the modest increase to keep the fine people at Axiom employed.

Don't be suprised when we see other North American speaker companies raise their prices as well. You can bet it's coming it's just a matter of when. At least Axiom gave us a heads up to when and how much. Look around and see if the others are posting how much and when their prices are going up.

Posted By: Wid Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/10/06 04:38 PM
From Alan,

"The crossover in the M80ti (M80 v2) has been unchanged for the past three years and a bit. Several ongoing changes were made in the crossover at that time."

The first increase was around 2 years after the the changes.

Animal style refers to the onions that have been carmelized on the grill, with a few other ingredients thrown in. Here is a Link to their secret menu. Here is an Unofficial Menu. 4x4 = 4 meats and 4 slices of heart pounding cheese.

We did bbq linguica (sp?) with pan-fried gold potatoes, sweet orange and red peppers, and big chunks of mayan sweet onions. Washed down by a wonderful beer from DENMARK, Carlsberg.

I've always liked Danish beer, especially Carlsberg and that one they used to import in the white bottle (forget the name). And now you can support free speech by buying Danish beer. Cool.

Since this thread originally concerned the price increase and tomorrow is the big day and my talks with blown302 have all been centered around my need to replace my bookshelf M22s with a good pair of tower speakers I would like to jerk this thread back to its original content for just a moment in the hope that someone will have something constructive to say. I know I don't need floorstanders in my little living room world, but I have a desire to do so. After reading about the price increase, I got to thinking that maybe, just maybe I should open my considerations to some other brands. Sorry about the blasphemy. I am considering something from the Polk Audio RTI line as well as the PSB image line. I have asked a similar question over at the Club Polk forum. The reply I got there is that there isn't an Axiom speaker made that can touch the Polk Audio RTI line, something I doubt very much. I'm not trying to start any kind of war, because I like my speakers, but I think it's about time for the upgrade. The question I'm asking myself is will I be satisfied with the M60s @$900/pair or will the Polk Audio or PSB image line at roughly the same amount of cash be just as satisfying?
Posted By: jimmienorton Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/16/06 04:48 PM
I finally made the move to buy the 80-500 7.1 system, I did not have all the money for it before the price increase so I put 10% down and will pay the rest in a week or two. They where kind enough to give me the lower price. I have the Denon 4306 and I would like to know if anyone here has one and if I could get any advice? Thanks for any help.
Posted By: Ajax Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/16/06 04:48 PM
Bruce, the first thing that pops into my mind, while reading your post, is "If you liked your M22s, you will DEFINITELY "be satisfied" the M60s." I initially had M22s, which I liked very much, but felt I wanted "more." I switched to the M60s and was very pleased with the change.

Since I've never heard Polk or PSB speakers, I can't speak to the Polk vs. PSB vs. Axiom thing. Giving you the best advice I can, I'd say get as much information as possible about all 3 brands, try to sift out the "my speakers are better than everybody else's" BS, listen to the little man inside, and make the best decision of which you are capable. Then sit back, listen to the music, and be happy.

(Sorry! I know that philosophical rant isn't much help, but speaker preference is totally subjective. )
Posted By: bugbitten Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/16/06 04:56 PM
jimmie,

Welcome! And congrats on the order. You have ordered a great system.

Your 4306 will drive your Axioms with no trouble. The manual and set-up are tedious, but take your time and you'll get through it. Plenty of Denon owners on board. One or two with the 4306. Ask any question!
Posted By: bugbitten Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/16/06 04:59 PM
I agree with Ajax about liking the 22s.

The best thing is the 30-day trial. Get them ordered. Test at home. Go listen to the Polks and PSBs. Return the 60s if not satisfied.
Posted By: BigWill Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/16/06 06:13 PM
There's all kinds of good speakers out there, but if the Polk RTs are the ones I heard at Circuit City a while back, the guys on the polk forum are smokin' crack.
The LSi 15s that I heard were very nice, but the RTs had boxy, muddled mids, decent bass and your typical un-offensive rolled off tweeter. At least that is how I remember them. Could have been the room, material, etc...

I had M60s in a 14x14 bedroom and they were positively fat and rich in that environment. Certainly more speaker than necessary, but they did sound good in there.

I think your taste in music and typical listening level should probably determine which speaker is best for you.
Posted By: bridgman Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/16/06 08:47 PM
I would probably put Axiom #1, followed by PSB then Polk. I did not listen to Polks but I did listen to PSBs before buying the Axioms. The PSBs were quite nice, with even more bass than the M60s, but I didn't feel they had the same clarity or "balance" as the 60s.
Posted By: SirQuack Re: axiom price increase?? - 02/17/06 04:06 AM
I agree with John on the batting order. There are many threads on this forum and AVS, that favor the Axioms over the RTi lineup. We can tell you a thousand times littleB, until you audition them for yourself, you'll never now.

As far as the posts go. Aside from the one's in here, there were at least two others I posted.

1 asking users if they had experience with a certain list of speakers compaired to QS8's

2. asking Axiom where their drivers are manufactured.

I'm not anti Axiom, actually until recently, quite pro-Axiom. I still have a pair of M1.0ti's.

Deleted posts and a condesending reply from Axiom themselves turned me off this company.

I know the posts were there because they showed up in the forum, but when I checked back they were gone.

Not saying you didnt post what you posted, but I find it VERY hard to believe that your posts were deleted because of content (unless you used profanity).
People post about other brands of speakers ALL the time without their posts getting deleted. There have been many posts that (from a business point of view) if I owned Axiom I would have deleted but they were not.

Condesending reply from Axiom?????
What was and or how did you word the question or statement.
I have NEVER seen or heard anyone from Axiom being condesending.
From message board members maybe but not from Axiom employees themselves.

What screen name were you using when you made these posts? All 3 of your posts under the name Jahko are in this thread, so you must've be using a different name. What was it?

>>Deleted posts and a condesending reply from Axiom themselves turned me off this company.

This sounds really odd, particularly the deleted posts. I have seen the occasional deleted thread, once for the "F" word, once for the "N" word, and maybe one other thread that was just getting really ugly and personal.

People here will often recommend non-Axiom products where they seem more appropriate for a poster, and there has never been a deleted thread or post because of that. A post has to be REALLY offensive to get deleted.

How long ago did this happen, and what was the user name ? You're not GeneticDrift, are you ?

Something doesn't sound on the up and up to me. But that's just my opinion.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

In my understanding of the forum software, if a post is deleted by Axiom or the member, the text of the post will be replaced with text stating that it has been deleted and the person that deleted. Now if the post is actually removed by a site admin, there will no record of it to be seen by forum members at all.
So John, I think you could be on the right path.

Isn't it funny when these people are questioned with real world data how they just disappear? No response whatsoever.
Well yes, I posted under multiple handles but that was because...

I have heard negative things about Axiom products, (on very rare occasions) but something negative about customer service or direct communication from a staffer...NEVER.

Well I can't explain it either. I know I posted. I know I checked to see if they were there - next time I came into the forum, they were gone.

For the record, I just posted a question about the mfr of the drivers in the technical forum and it showed up.

The email I got from Axiom came accross as:
"I can't believe you're going to another brand over a measely $20" and didn't address my other points.

In reply to:

I still have a pair of M1.0ti's

I have never seen any reference to that Axiom model, what is it and could you post some pics of them ?

I'm a little confused. You obviously had an opportunity to purchase the Axiom speakers before the price increase, but you e-mailed Axiom to tell them you planned to purchase another brand? I'm glad you found speakers you are happy with, because that's what it's really all about. But Imho there is something missing in this story.

I'm guessing the issue was the cost of return shipping if he didn't like them , not the price increase.

There was a server failure last year that briefly took down the board and IIRC a few posts were lost with no way to identify or reclaim them. I remember hearing about midnight phone calls to Montreal (or wherever the ISP was based) but didn't hear all the details.

Just guessing, but this seems more likely than someone deleting your posts.

Maybe AX1s, sometimes called AX1.0s ?

Thanks for the info John, perhaps when I'm as old as you I will have as much knowledge.

Axiom M1 was a very small bookshelf speaker with a 4.5" Woofer. I think it was discontinued about 4-5 years ago.

Pictures and everything. They're cute.

Now that I think about it, I seem to remember seeing M0 and M1 included in the "compare all bookshelf speakers" table until a year or so ago...
