I heard alot thing about how axiom been bright etc. so I was wondering which these AVR is best suit for axiom m60? denon-3806 or Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi ???

This topic comes up a lot. Axioms are not bright. For some reason people on AVS and other biased forums like to give Axiom a bad name. Everyone hears differently. Some speakers are designed to give a more laid back sound, that is not for me. I want a speaker that will produce the recording faithfully, not try to disguise or muffle what your hearing. Axioms speakers are very neutral/efficient/detailed are saying they are bright could not be the furthest from the truth.

If you Search this forum for "Bright" you will find many threads about this topic, when newbies have asked the same question.

I've owned a lot of speakers in my day; Optimus, Infinity, Klipsch, NHT, just to name a few. When I bought my Axioms a year ago I spent months auditioning brands like B&W, NHT, Paradigm and others. In my opinion, the Axioms for the money, were the best deal in the industry.

I would recommend you check the Audition Thread http://www.axiomaudio.com/boards/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Auditions&Number=76567&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart= to see if there is anyone on the list or on the map in your area that will let you listen to their Axioms.

I learned a long time ago, to not listen to others, especially those on AVS that have never heard Axioms, and let my own ears do the judging.

If you decide to eventually upgrade to M80's, i would go withe the Denon as it will have no problems driving them.

i orderd the m60, but currently not sure which avr to buy, can anyone has denon or pioneer reciver step in tell me hows the sound quility

I can tell you the sound quality of the Denon is great,I have the Denon 3805, alot of members on this board use Denon and are very happy. Sorry I can't help you in regards to the pioneer. I'm sure someone will jump in soon.

I used to run a Denon with my m22s. I wasn't overly impressed. I have recently heard the same receiver with an all PSB speaker setup, with 5ts in the front. I'm going to say this and then I'm going to duck for cover. If you have a small room, the Denon will be fine. If you have a larger room I would look elsewhere. The Pioneer might just be that alternative.

Lol, no need to duck I used the Denon in a very large room when I had my 60's in a 7.1 setup and had no problems at all.

Always cracks me up how people think they're gonna get flamed when they say something less than flattering about axioms on this board.

The responses are almost always the same. Calm, matter of fact responses from mature rational people. You go to the competition sites where people who have never heard the speaker talk down about axioms and its the kind of place you will get flamed.

What that means, I'll leave up to others to decide. I'm sure glad I picked Axioms though. Great speakers, great company with a great community forums.

Far as I'm concerned I hit the jack pot regarding speakers and AV conversation.

You obviously have not been on AVSforum. Try posting something positive about Axioms and the trolls will come out and flame the hell out of you. Jack, Craig, myself, and many others are always over there defending Axiom, it would be nice if some of you would join us.

To the poster, I have the Denon 2805 and love the sound with my M60's. I was told on AVS that Denon's are mechanical sounding and Axioms are bright/harsh, NOT the case.

Many of us also have Pioneer AVR's, they are great as well, as are Onkyo, Yammy, etc...

Pick the AVR that has the features and bells/whistles you like, they will all sound great with your Axioms.

Agree with Randy. If you pick a mid to upper level receiver from the list of usual suspects (Denon, Pio, Yammy, Onkyo, HK, etc) you will be fine.

And I agree with Randy and Ray. Alan Lofft told me the same thing. Once you hit a certain price/quality point, you are going to be perfectly fine, as long as it has the features/functions that you want. I have a Pioneer Elite VSX 54TX and love it. I am definately in the minority here with the brand, but not quality. By that I mean that the Elite line is pretty solid and will do well for you, others around here just seem to buy Denon and other brands like that, which too are good products.

I know that the Pioneer VSX-74TX got some great reviews in various home theater mags when it first came out, so you won't go wrong there.

As for the whole "bright" thing, I'll say this.
Let me give you 3 words to decribe something that there are millions, or at least hundreds of thousands of variants and let you describe them. For example, I'll givce you FAST - NORMAL - SLOW and let you clasify every atuomobile in the world, understanding that there are vaiables outside of the automobile itself that can impact it's performance such as fuel choices, road conditions, amount of "stuff" in the vehicle, etc.
What would fall under FAST? NORMAL? SLOW?
You would find that one person might thing that a certain vehicle is "FAST" and another says it is just NORMAL because one person is looking at top speed, and the other acceleration. Every person is differenct.

To that end, I encourage people to use more factual information in regards to speakers. Look at the numbers. If a good frequency response range and lack of distortion means "bright", then give me my "bright" Axioms. I love the clarity of them, even though "clarity" is another subjective word.

Long story short... Get an audition of some Axioms if you are in doubt, and any receiver you pick in the range that you are looking can "tweak" the sound to your liking anyway since you would be starting with a great set of speakers.

Gee, this is funny. I got bored today, went for a ride and ended up at one of the local stereo places. I really didn't know what they had to offer. I looked at and listened to an Arcam, B&K, Integra and HK. I also listened to a variety of Paradigm speakers. Quick, someone post a thread at AVS. Either I have a horrible case of tinitus or those buggers were bright-t-t-t. Now, I'm going to make a general statement about modern speakers. After, spending a couple of years of hearing brand X versus Y and Z, I've come to the conclusion that most speakers are on the bright side, if you will. All this AVS talk about Axioms being harsher than brand Z is a bunch of hooey. To tell the truth, I've found the opposite to be true during my short demo sessions. Axioms are actually a more neutral speaker compared to many of those that I have auditioned.

The salesman really wanted me to like the Arcam, but I was most impressed by the HK. I wanted to hear the monster AVR-7300, but the newest model they had was the AVR-430. They really have to update their inventory, since that is a couple years old I'm afraid.

I really liked the BW 704s when I was shopping around. I ended up getting the Axioms M60ti. After having the M60ti for a while I went back to listen to the 704s again.

Yuck ... and over twice the cost.

Of the two you listed I would go with the Denon. As for Axiom being bright, I will add my two cents. For a time I thought my Axiom's were bright, and blamed it on my Receiver, then the speakers. However it is all fixed now. If you are not happy with your Axioms at first allow a burn in time. When I got mine I loved them, then it went through a stage where sound was bright, and somewhat shallow. However now with many hours on them, I could not ask for a better speaker for the money. This was just my experience.

In my strong opinion, most people just don't have a clue when they call something warm, bright, etc. I think that they are sort of like a little kid that learns a new word.

whats the typical time for burn in?? I receive my axiom last night, nice finish, fast shipping, excellent customer service. order on last friday got it 5 day later. I haven't properly setup yet, got denon 1920 player, but a sucky reciever for now, so the sound is okay.

Isn't it a proven fact that it takes some people's ears longer to burn in than others?

Mine are still smoldering, I believe.

It really can't be argued that the sound doesn't change after a very small period of time (they've proven it beyond a shawdow of a doubt), but the way we hear it clearly does. My M60ti sounds better to me now that I've had them awhile. Interesting how over time your hearing changes with any one particular speaker.

WJ, the typical time for break-in varies between 17 and 49 seconds, but since they already did that when tested at the factory, you won't have to bother; just enjoy the music.

I normally try to avoid discussions such as the ones like the last few replies, but since everyone seems to have a similar opinion, I figured why not:

I am by NO means an audiophile, but I do have a very extensive electronics background. From what I gather, speakers are a mechanical device that does take time to "break-in" just as most any other complex mechanical device.

However, as was noted by JohnK, the break-in for speakers is mere seconds from what I know.

As to the origional poster; well I am a newbie around here, and could be wrong, but so far, looks like I am the only one driving Axioms with a SonyES; the 1000ES specifically. At the time I purchased it, it was the only product that had all the features I desired that fit in my price range, aside from the 2000ES, but I wasn't *quite* ready to try their "digital drive" amps yet, so I stuck with the 1000ES which is traditional class "AB" analog amplification.
