I've had a Rio Carbon MP3 player for just over a year. Great little player, sounds great, nice and small. One problem that came to light AFTER I bought it was the poor design of the thumb wheel. Turns out they tend to break and can't be fixed. After reading about this problem I tried to be extra careful but sure enough mine broke. Rio is now out of the mp3 business (a shame, they were a pioneer of the industry as part of Diamond). So I sold the 5GB microdrive to a guy to use in his camera. That should hold a few pictures.
Anyhoo, just pulled the trigger on an iPod. Just the standard 20GB model. Spendy bastards. But I want to use that Apple Lossless compression. And they sound pretty good. 20 gigs is more music than I'll ever load on it but oh well. Damn, loved that Carbon.

You'll love the iPod, too. It's impossible not to. It's like smoking crack.

Yeah, I've just been trying to avoid being assimilated into the collective.

I like the Zen Micro from Creative Labs a lot. I purchased a few of them this year to pass out as Christmas gifts to various friends. I probably should have purchased Ipods with all these new receivers supporting them, but I liked the Zen Micro's so that's what I got for those who go unnamed.

I'm considering the Zen Micro Photo that just came out this year...

FWIW, I've been assimilated. I have a 4G but I'm definitely pining for a 5G w/ video. Because of my iPod, I ended up buying a Mac Mini. Yes, I fell for the "halo effect". I use the Mini in my HT w/ my plasma. It's great for ripping my DVDs for use on my PSP. The OSX tools are WAY faster than the windows tools.
Now if this is really true, I'll have to upgrade to a new Mac Mini and iPod w/ video... It'll give my HD Tivo a run for the money.
Mac Mini with DVR
I'll be at MacWorld, including the keynote, so it'll be interesting what Jobs has to say.

Egad! I though they were for listening to music LOL! For a geek I'm a bit Zen about my acoutrements. Phone is Phone. Music player is Music player. It is what it is. The tech is neat but I like items designed for one thing only. I would rather have my devices do one thing well than have an all-in-one do many things passably. The Treo phones are a great example. I have now been forced kicking and screaming into using one for busineess purposes. It looks neat and had some cool feature but in my opinion is a hacked together jumble of technologies. The phone only has average range, the email is spotty and the other features are near useless in my opinion. And I don't need a crappy camera in my phone fer cryin' out loud. I liked my old phone: Lightweight, great range and battery life, indestructible. Now I have this lashup and I have to carry it around in a case to protect it and cross my fingers that I get reception half the time. And I have yet to receive an email after-hours that needs to be dealt with immediately. Feh. I unplug my nose at you, Treo! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

Funny, to each his own. I've been a Palm user for almost 10 years. I have the Treo 600 and love it, but then again, I've also been a "power" Outlook user for about 8 years. For me it works, granted it was hard to get rid of my Nokia CDMA phone that was indestructible and worked EVERYWHERE.
Yeah it's bigger and I've dropped a bit. Try egrips, makes it harder to drop.

egrips, huh? I'll look into it. I just like to travel light. And I like devices that fit comfortably into jeans pockets. I'm hoping the Treo will magically fry itself though. I wonder if sprinkling metal shavings into its innards while powered on is bad for it...
