The Hip's lesser success in the States is our advantage. Reminds me of a guy I used to work with several years ago...he was on a service call over in Jolly Ole England to set up a machine we had built. He used to hang out at one of their local night clubs in the evenings while he was there and handed the DJ a Tragically Hip CD to play, wasn't long before everyone was asking him who are these guys? they're awesome why haven't we heard of them before? I mean, they said..." 'ay mate, oo's the band, a bit of alright, eh wott?"

Luckily I was living in Halifax when The Hip was doing the club scene and we always made a point to hit a bar that they were playing in. It was funny, when they finally hit the radio, I went around telling my doubtful friends, "I told ya so!."
Sloan was another group that we enjoyed live in the small bar music scene that was a starter bed for a ton of now big Canadian bands at the time.. Ironically though, I never liked thier studio sound as much as thier live sound.
Halifax was the place you Had to go if you were a young band then but now it seems you can be anywhere, which I think is great for everyone, band and fan alike.

Caught Derek Trucks at the Fargo Theater on Monday night. 3rd row seats-purchased 1 week before the show. I couldn't believe how good they were. Great venue-old style theater with good acoustics. Derek put on a great show. No one else makes it look so easy. The band was tight and the jams were long. More great blues on the prairie-it gets no better than that.

This doesn't really qualify as a "concert", but we saw Dane Cook's summer comedy tour the other day at the BOKCenter in Tulsa.
Pretty funny stuff for sure...
Also, my parents, me, my wife, my sister and her boyfriend will be going back to the BOK center in october to watch the dave matthews concert with special guest willie nelson. Should be tight!

Just returned from Pop Evil, Whitesnake and the metal gods - Judas Priest at the Molson Amphitheatre at Ontario Place (Toronto)
Pop Evil - missed due to the road closures for the Indy race Whitesnake - band was good, but Coverdale's voice is done....
Priest...the metal masters still have it!!!

Judas Priest would have been awesome I bet. Whitesnake without Coverdale's distinctive vocals in full form might be a let down. Still a fun day I bet though.
