I just ordered the M80/VP150/QS8/no sub yet, and they should arrive any day!!! I am also auditioning the Outlaw 1050 and Yamaha RX-V3000, and will be testing both with the new speakers. I know I probably shouldn't ask before hearing for myself, but I have to hear some opinions on the two units, pros and cons....

Can the Outlaw 1050 handle 4-ohm speakers, such as the M80s?

If you ask me
the Outlaw is outdated and under powered. I would by the Denon 2802 over it any day, maybe even the 1802.
Outlaw does not have Pro Logic 2, nor 5 or 6 channel stereo. At 65 watts per channel, it is also a little shy on power.

I unforunately do not know anything about the Yamaha receiver, so I will not comment on it.

Well, to tackle both the other posts here...

Yes, the 1050 can handle 4ohms quite well, has a switch like most receivers.

For the other one, the outlaw has 6.1 (awesome, try TPM) and the 65w is MUCH louder than my supposed 100x5w rms 9k series jvc was. I dont have axioms (yet!!), but they are more efficient, so they need less power. I did alot of checking and many recievers use like 400w and supposedly do 100x5w rms, etc but the outlaw actually uses like 540w for its 65w amp...they are VERY conservatively rated...AND at 500$ instead of 900$ for the jvc, a STEAL!!!

Are there any disadvantages to running the Outlaw 1050 (in 4-ohm mode) with both 4-ohm and 8-ohm lourspeakers? Or, do they all need to have matching impedance?

well, i am looking at getting the epic 80 which is all approx. 4 ohms...I have never heard of a problem with mixing as long as the amp is set to 4ohms....most amps actually put out more at 4ohms vs 8ohms!!! Outlaw never gave a specific number of watts it puts out at 4ohms, but they told me it puts our more...I have 4ohm jbls and no problems. the outlaw book says it has no prob with 4ohms and you set it based on the front speakers if they are mixed...hope i answered your question.

The Model 1050 is fully capable of driving speakers of mixed impedance. In your hook-up scenario, you will want to set the 1050 to 4 ohms.
