Anyone here see Into the Wild? I saw this on the weekend and thought it was a most excellent movie. I actually thought it was far better than No Country For Old Men.

I'm not the biggest fan of Sean Penn but I have to say he did a fantastic job directing this movie.

I saw Into the Wild a few weeks back and also thought it’s phenomenal. I have the book on queue to read too; many friends of mine have recommended it. Between Into The Wild and No Country…, I’ll go with NoCountry for old man, this movie is just a masterpiece. The only flaw of the movie is Llewelyn’s mother-in-law character, she was so out-of-place, like a SNL skit with Amy Poehler. Haven’t seen Juno and There Will Be Blood yet…looking forward to it.
Has anyone seen Sweeney Todd?? Now that’s a bizarre movie. Btw: the music recording and the video quality is spectacular. The movie starts with a pipe organ passage with a couple of 18hz notes in it, pretty sweet. However the music itself I find it tiresome, sounded great, but dreary. Overall, Sweeney Todd is just difficult to watch. … Oh, and it’s not a kid movie; it makes No Country for Old Men seems like Sesame Street.

I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’m waiting for the HD/DVD price to go down. A friend of a friend is in it though (I don’t know the guy). He gave the kid a ride and felt sorry for him because he thought the kid was totally clueless and in for a big surprise. He ended up giving him a pair of his work boots because the kid didn’t have anything but sneakers with him. Sean Penn was interviewing my friend’s friend prior to shooting the movie and asked him to play his own part. When they were shooting the film, Sean Penn took the guys out on the town. My friend was telling me he was a pretty cool guy. He just hung out with them and you wouldn’t have known he’s an actor by the way he was treating them. Well, other than spending most of the night with his cell phone stuck to his ear.

I saw No Country and thought it was very good but definitely no masterpiece. I thought it was a bit overrated. Into the Wild made me feel something...I thought about it more afterwards.

The guy who gave the boots is how the movie opens. Don't recall that they showed much of the guy though.

I've seen both and enjoyed both films, Imo No Country has one of the best acted creepy characters I've seen in the movies for a long time.

Can't say I'm surprised that Sweeney Todd isn't for kids... it is after all about a serial killer...

I know what you're saying; IntoTheWild was one of those movies that you keep thinking about long after the movie ended.

No Country for old man scored very well on all key components that make good cinematography. Excellent dialogs, screenplay etc… Good art should moved you in some way … not always it is in a positive heartening way.

I watched "Into the Wild" last weekend and thought that it was excellent as well. I did enjoy the book a little bit more, but I thought that Sean Penn did a good job of showing what was going through Chris' mind when he was alone in Alaska.

Ya, the perfect Robert Parker lol. I can't believe he's going to play Parker. Definately did an excellent job as a killer.

I'm not sure I even "got" the ending to NCFOM. It just ended on Tommy Lee's dream.

Have Into the Wild home from Netflix right now. It streeted 4 days after they dropped HD DVD, so I got the Standard DVD format. I haven't been able to decide whether to return it and wait for Blu-ray to come out (and rent then), watch the low rez version, or go out and buy the HD DVD... *sigh*

I loved "No Country..." some stunning cinematography. I just loved how they used lighting and camera angles to set moods. A piece of art. (Though, with the really dark story line, not a movie I would like to see lots of times... )

I, too, really liked "Into The Wild" and was listening to my sister-in-laws' soundtrack that she got from iTunes.

Loved the music...brought me right back to the movie and made me want to see it again. But the sound quality was a bit less than excellent.

Anyone own the CD version to comment on the quality? There's no sense in me buying the disc if it suffers from the same lifeless compression crap as most other recent releases. I'm hopeful since it's acoustic......

I didn't want to get involved in this round, because last time I didn't end up keeping my end of the bargain and making one. Then, when a couple of months went by, I let it go out of embarrassment.

So, basically, I didn't trust myself to do it!!

'Into the Wild' was a very good movie, dumb guy for heading out into that harsh wilderness unprepared and inexperienced ... not smart at all and he paid the ultimate cost to be a hippy.

'No Country...' was an excellent movie I thought. Did he kill her?

I watched it last weekend with my brother and son. We all really enjoyed it. Seems like he was a guy that needed some sort of challenge to put more meaning to his life and was having a hard time finding that challenge.

Very few people push their limits. He pushed well beyond and almost pulled it off.

Where he died isn’t really all that remote, or even rugged. Well, think about it, someone drove a bus there and left it after it died on them. I’d rather be stuck there than in the cities he wandered through, much safer. Critters will leave you alone for the most part. Even the griz’es leave you be unless you do something really stupid, like try and pet them or tease the cubs when mom’s around. – I see tourist try and pet the black bears around here all the time. It’s only divine intervention that saves those idiots. I actually had to stop an old lady with a walker once on my way home from work one evening. She was ‘walking’ up to a bear munching on a salmon along side the road. Her husband was there with a camera and a grin…..either he planned this to get rid of her, or he was just as stupid.

One thing about the bush though, it’s very easy to get turned around and lost. Two girls just got lost looking for ‘the buss’ a couple weeks ago. Luckily two days later they miraculously got cell phone coverage and were picked up.
