At the very least maybe it will push Sony to stabalize the bluray format ond lower the price on its players to something within reach of Joehtib.

Death to all discs! Muuhahahahaha.....

I don't plan to get Blu-Ray after getting "bitten" by HD-DVD. I think that, like others have said, the future is NOT disc based but disk based (notice the C and the K....) Disc as in the little plastic circle that holds a movie, and disk as in hard disk for storing downloaded movies from online. Even with the PS3 at good prices right now, I am not going to pay the inflated prices for Blu-Ray now that there is no competition.

I think the Toshiba's idea with this format is that it uses existing DVD hardware technologies, so the only upgrade is the decoding chip.

In theory this makes it easy to build cheap players. What people charge for the content, well...
