I got a last second invite to see the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl performing Carmina Burana the other night! Box seats even! It was incredible!

This is now 2 weeks old due to vacation but I started it all off with 3 nights of concerts. Night 1 - State of Shock - The Trews - Billy Talent
Night 2 - Matt Mays and El'Torpedo - Our Lady Peace
Night 3 - Collective Soul - Tragically Hip
Billy Talent had the crowd bouncing like crazy but a lot of older folks 'didn't get it'. I never did quiet grow up yet so I had a blast.
Our Lady Peace had exceptional sound quality. I have seen them 3 times now and this outdoor event sounded like I was listening at home. Well, maybe louder.
I especially enjoyed Collective Soul. They are just such diverse musicians. Even their softer ballads, with hints of classical influence even, seem to provide as much energy as their rockin tunes.
The Hip did what they always do. Play what they play really well until young and old alike are heavy into it. They had almost 100% of the crowd, front to back, with hands raised. That's rare too see at these festivals that have very diverse audiences of all ages.

I really dig The Hip. The first time I saw them was in a small Seattle bar (The Offramp, now closed) about 20 years ago. Amazing. I would definitely look forward to Jethro Tull, CSN&Y, Styx, and Boston Where were you in the 1980's, JP? "Studying"?

Allegedly.
When I was in college, I taped the King Biscuit Flower Hour off the radio onto a cassette. One of my favorite concerts was Jethro Tull, especially the rendition of "Farm on the Freeway". That was a song that, to me, never got its due.
Maybe people had gotten enough about the farmer from John Cougar Mellencamp's Scarecrow album a couple of years earlier. It also remains one of my faves.

So, it was "Flower" rather than "Flour" by that time? I was in the 6th row for the Crest of a Knave tour. Neener.

Ooh, rub it in. Ouch. Farm on the Freeway from the 6th row.
I think of the other concerts I could have seen in 1987-1988 and get a little sad: U2/Joshua Tree, Pink Floyd/Momentary Lapse of Reason, Def Leppard/Hysteria. If I knew then ...
At least I saw Rush a few times, Paul Simon's Graceland tour, R.E.M's Green tour, a few others. Not too bad.
