Can she really not hear anything or is she just not listening to you? Jealous though. I didn't think I liked NiN until I saw a live performance. The live music is so clean compared to the albums and the energy is like I have never experienced before or since. She was apparently quite unnerved with the size of Trent Reznor's abnormally sized arms. Kinda like the latest Carrot Top steroid look.

What a day! Hit the Kitchener Blues festival today. Started off with a set by some local talent, headed over to the main stage and caught the Downchild Blues band, then Maureen Brown & Big Hand.
It rained on and off all afternoon, so we headed back to my place for a little while to dry off and warm up.
The evening started off with a group from Oz, Mason Rack Band. These guys were amazing. The guitarist plays some increadible slide guitar and did a percussion duet with the drummer. He also wandered in the audience playing chairs and tent poles (we were under a bigtop) at one point.
The evening finished off with Big Jack Johnson and the Oilers. Man, can this guy play!! Because of the weather there were no moer than 40 or 50 people at the last set. We were front row center.

Sounds like a fun weekend. Toughing it out through the weather will make it all the more memorable, I'm sure.

It was a great weekend. I took my son down on Sunday for supper and to catch the closing act, Mel Brown & The Homewreckers. Mell looked to be somewhere in his 70s, had an oxygen tube under his nose, but he still mannaged to bang out rockin tunes for two hours.

Just recovering from the Edmonton Folk Music Festival - the one chance to cram a year's worth of live music into one weekend. The highlights (and there were many):
- The Sadies jamming with Luke Doucet and Ron Sexsmith. Possibly the finest version of "Burnin' Love" I will ever hear; - Michael Franti and Spearhead getting untold thousands of people up dancing at 1:00AM, just after a thunderstorm dropped the temperature from 32 to about 12 degrees; - Serena Ryder cranking out Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" - jaw-dropping; - Jonny Lang jamming with 6 other guitarists/bluesmen (including Don Ross and Andy McKee) on BB King's "Gambler's Blues" - that dude has some serious talent; - Broken Social Scene jamming with Luke Doucet and John Bottomley
I also managed to see shows by Brett Dennen, Colin Hay, Chris Isaak, Joan Osbourne, Hawksley Workman, Buckwheat Zydeco, Abigail Washburn and Bela Fleck, and probably a bunch more that I'm forgetting. What a weekend!
I encourage anyone who lives within a 1000-mile radius of Edmonton to come and check this festival out if you can. It is amazingly well-run, and the talent speaks for itself...great stuff. Now I have to go spend a bunch of money on new music.
