Ok, Wii owners....working with my son's new Wii. Ran the wireless setup option, put in my WEP key and it connected fine, and downloaded an update.
However, when I try to go into Weather or News, it says the Wii...24 or something like that is not configured to connect. So I go in them menu and try to setup that up, but it won't connect.
Do I need to go into my router and add the MAC address or something. I would think if it was able to connect and run the update, the other channels would work?
Thanks, Randy

hmmm.. does seem odd. I don't have a wii but you would think that if the network connection worked for an update that it would work for the wii channels as well.

wii connect 24, that is what you are trying to setup right? You have to set that service to on in the wii settings screens.

WiiConnect24, if memory serves me correctly, is where some features only work if your Wii is set to never fully power off, but goes into a "sleep" mode. That way, the Wii grabs weather, news, Mii Channel, Wii Shop, Everybody Votes, and other updates somewhat consistently throughout the day (and night). I am not at home, so I don't remember the exact steps to set it up. Here is a Wiki about it... WiiConnect24 Wiki Just turn it on and give it a few minutes to start downloading information.

Yes, I seem to remember that it's not "instantaneous"; after successfully turning on the service, it seems like our Wii needed quite a while (I just left it overnight) to grab all the shards of data it needed.

The problem is that it won't connect, gives me a connection error when I go into that setup option and try. The wireless option works however after I entered in my wep key.
Maybe I don't need that feature, I was thinking there is a way to download old classic games?

I have found that even though I have the service on, if I haven't gone into those channels for awhile it still takes a minute or 2 to update itself before anything happens.
Randy, are you running the Wii wireless? I know it can have connection issues, drop outs etc, that won't allow it to connect. Maybe try to see if can reconnect to check for another update, if it returns no updates available then you know the connection is still good and you are simply waiting for the Wii connect 24 to grab all the info it needs.
