good morning, I was looking at the emotiva amps, the one three channels. It's says 8 or 4ohms.
How do you hook a pair of m80 + vp150 to that amp? is it possible to configure 2 channels to 4ohm and one to 8 (for the vp150) or you have to configure it for 8ohms for all three channels? Is it better to buy the 2 channels version and leave the center on the AVR?
I never had a power amp before..

The amp does not know what ohm rating a speaker is, just like receivers, they can drive 4-8ohm speakers at the same time. My Denon drives all my speakers except the m80's, they are driven by Odyssey monoblock amps.
Keep in mind my room is about 8,000+ cu ft of space, so that is why I have amps, to fill the large space.

how come there is an 6-8ohm setting in my receiver? So if I plug a pair of m80, they will potentially use 300w while the vp150 get around 200w? specs Number of channels: 3 • Amplifier Class: Short signal path A/B • Output design: Triple Darlington with On semi-conductor output stages • Differential Drive: Dual Differential input • Types of inputs: Both Balanced (XLR) and Un-balanced (RCA) • Type of outputs: Audiophile quality 5 way binding post • Display type: Digital status indicators 8 ohm rating: 3 channels - 8 ohm = 200 watts per channel 2 channels - 8 ohm = 250 watts per channel 1 channels - 8 ohm = 300 watts per channel 4 ohm rating: 3 channels - 4 ohm = 300 watts per channel 2 channels - 4 ohm = 400 watts per channel 1 channels - 4 ohm = 500 watts per channel

leave the switch on the 8 ohm setting... someone will explain why b/c I forget! for the AVR i don't mind leaving it at 8ohms but I was wondering how it works on the power amp side. If you connect a mix of 4ohms and 6ohms speakers, will the 4ohms speakers get more power? The amp specs says that a 4ohms speakers can receive 300w of power.. I don't think there is a switch either on the amp

It really does not matter the watts. After you calibrate all the speakers, 8 ohm, 6 ohm or 4 ohm, they will all be using different amounts of current. What really does matter is that you have calibrated them correctly.
It's the speaker that determines the current being drawn not how much the amp is rated to put out at max level.
