It's not uncommon to see them going for the same price or slightly less than the DVD versions, which I found surprising and welcome.

I check out what they have. I am hesitant to upgrade from a DVD version to BD unless I can find reviews that substantiate a marked improvement in SQ or PQ over the DVD version, or rent it from Netflix and see for myself. There are many movies I would love to have a nice BD version of but they just don’t see to be enough of an improvement for me to justify the cost.

Here. Not bad prices for some of those full seasons, but yeah, I wouldn't recommend blind buys, even though I risk it myself, and if you already have it on DVD, then yeah, it's hard for me to recommend paying for it again.

Not bad prices at all. “Gunslinger Girl” is $19.99 which is what I paid for just one disk that I couldn’t find through any other source. Sucks I could have had the whole first season on BD for that price. I’ve also had trouble finding good copies of Claymore and Heroic Age which at those prices I might just have to order unless I want to watch them as some AVI DVD rip. wink

Thanks Charles I’ll keep a better eye on what’s available.

Do be aware that most, if not all, of these FUNimation BD releases are upscales of SD content. Granted they're doing non-realtime upscaling, and tweaking a few things by hand in trouble areas. So the quality should exceed what's possible by any upscaler which has to get its work done in 1/30 of a second. But the extra information in the picture is all algorithmically created rather than from an original source.

Nice to know, Chris. I'll say that I'm happy with the stuff I've seen, being sharper and cleaner than any DVD anime I have.

Dean, I liked Claymore pretty well, if you remember my impressions. You're welcome to my copy of Heroic Age if you want it. It was also one of my impulse purchases when the price got low. You can also have season one of Tsubasa if you have any interest in it, since I didn't get into that one, either.

Atonement

Joe Wright is a pretty damn good director. I don't know what took me so long to watch this movie, considering how much I liked his Pride & Prejudice. Overall, the tone and subject matter of this movie aren't what I would normally go for, but it really is a well-made movie, and I did like the ending.

Odd, I have Atonement at my place right now. I'll probably watch it tomorrow.

Watched Shooting Fish tonight. I've seen just about every con flick ever made, this was just one I missed. Only an average movie. I kept looking for twists which never happened.

All my regularly PVRed shows are in the off season right now so I have to admit I set it to record a bunch of "Dr. Who" for some rainy days. Despite liking the books when I was younger, I never got into the original series(s) on TV. I have to admit the newer remakes are not bad. A good balance of keeping the old cheesy aliens and a few key items to keep the nostalgia but modernized the rest just enough to keep you interested.

We watched "The Hurt Locker" a couple nights ago.

Just didn't get the "Best Picture" vibe. Should have been better.
