Does anyone know what the difference is between the generations of the M60's? It seems most of the reviews are for the later generations. Are the earlier generations close to as good?

Over many years, ALL the Axiom speakers have received changes, some minor, some more significant which is no different than any company. Axiom has made some changes to their drivers, crossovers, etc., from the Ti line to the current V3 series. Most of the changes have been subtle when your just talking a few years apart, but if your talking about say a Ti versus a V3, you might hear more improvements, not huge but noticable.

Can anyone report on their subjective perceptions of the M60V2 vs M60V3? Or is it still too early to do so? I do have a concern after reading some of the reports of newly received V3 models regarding some poor workmanship (check out the Stereo thread by jerrymb "I just ordered a pair of M3 v3 Bookshelf Speakers.") Perhaps I should wait a little longer before ordering. I am not sure if the V3 is worth the wait when I can buy V2's used for quite a bit less.

My comparison isn't exactly what you are looking for BUT in comparing a pair of V2 M60s(which I traded in) for V3 M80s, I was surprised how similar they sounded. If the M60s you are pondering to buy are in good shape and the price is attractive,go for it! I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry too much about quality issues, this was just one out of many that have receieved v3 speakers without problems. I think Jerry is/was just jinxed.

I believe there was some review around where a guy flew in Axiom to blindly listen to speakers which he found out were the V3s compared to V2s of the M80...he said he couldn't tell a difference. I think the consensus is there isn't any extremely audible differences between V2s and 3s.

According to Alan, the differences are subtle, but are indeed audible.

I don't think what you are referring to was a blind test of the V2 vs V3 but that of the stock M80 crossover which is used in the m80 vs a modified m80 crossover using air core inductors. It was published around the V2 to V3 transition.

I suppose this is like buying a new car in August or September, you have the option to get the last years model, or next years model. It's the same car with some minor differences / imporvments (maybe even a regretion or two).

I wonder at this stage if the V3 just sounds a little differnt, not better or worse. Some may find that difference as better, others may not. I don't doubt there would even be some that like the V2 over the V3 (in a true blind test).

Our session at the Axiom plant last weekend proved that theory!

I would go with the V2 because that is what I own and i simply don't know anybetter.

I have M60ti's and I think they sound great.

I've heard various generations of M80's in other rooms, and they also sounded great.
