I was on the 3 DVD plan. I just changed to the Unlimited Steaming + 2 DVD plan to keep my cost the same. I might adjust that later depending on this summer's viewing habits.

Costs don't go up until September Peter... At least for my account.

I've been paying about $20 for 2 dvd's + streaming, with no notifiction of an increase. If it does go up, I'll just drop the streaming. I don't care for it anyway.

If I didn't take care of it now, I'd forget.

I just got my notice.

Plan 1: 7.99 for streaming.
Plan 2: 14.99 for 2 out at a time dvd w/BD.
Both: 22.98.

I've changed my plan for 14.99 for 2 out at a time, and dropped streaming. Crap movies anyway.

Hi Sonicfox,

Yes, I got the same notice as you did this morning. I'm also on the same $9.99 plan as you are, but I almost never use the streaming, so I may go to the unlimited DVDs at $7.99 and forget about streaming.

Yes, it blows. When I read the notice, I thought, ah, crafty way to increase prices.

Plus, what's really annoying is that if you have the Netflix plan for the US, where I live for half the year, it doesn't work in Canada. I'm on my sailboat in Ontario at the moment and I'd like to have streaming. To do so, I have to subscribe to Netflix Canada, so forget it. I just go to the local video rental.

Oddly enough, I've watched more streaming movies than DVDs. I have fun searching through them and picking out stuff I'd never take the time to order on DVD. I tend to order new releases on DVD unless it's something older I've always wanted to see, but NOT available streaming.

Are there other options besides Netflix that offer similar services? I briefly looked over Amazon Prime...only 5000 movies streaming? I also have Cinema Now on my Insignia Blu-Ray player...no monthly fee, you just rent when you want. I've never tried it though.

It looks to me like VUDU, one of the options on streaming I have, has the best sound/video quality and availability on new movies, but at $6.00 per movie (gives you about 3 days usage), I think is a little too steep. I'd rather just wait for a blu-ray sale instead.

Yes, $6/movie is too much.

I like the business model and pricing at Zediva. Tried it for the first time last night, but was horribly disappointed by the video quality. It is perhaps related to the relatively modest setup I used for viewing (dual core Atom 1.66GHz, Ubuntu, Chrome). I have 20Mbps cable internet, so I don't think it is the download speed. I will try with other browsers and other machines and report back. But if I can't get it to work well on that machine, it's probably a non-starter for me anyway.

We use the streaming far more than the physical disk rental, but the depth of the available disk titles would be very difficult to give up.

With Blockbuster and Hollywood video out of business, I'm not sure where I'd even go, locally. Red Box has pretty limited selection, but perhaps they will seize the opportunity.

Vudu's prices vary. Yeah, new releases are $6, but they have one $0.99 selection every day, any plenty of $3 HD titles from which to pick. Their quality is great. I meant to watch Source Code this past weekend (it's not even out to buy on BD yet).
