Murph, i actually do go to the rental store.. Due to my system not having any type of PC integration, it isn't worth it to me to download any movies...
It is actually much easier for me to go to the rental store, as the store is about 2 blocks away, so i can make a 2 minute car drive, or wait hours to download... And, the store has a subscription service for 10$ a month, i can get unlimited videos at an average price of about a buck... See my post in the deals thread as well, to see my point of view..
I know your harassing me, which is fine. But at the same time, this is a topic which could be addressed...
On a side note... movie actors get paid millions, while teachers get paid around 40k$/yr... The reason i bring this up, is my other thread the "math is fun thread". While watching movies is fun, but at the expense of an educated society.. Well, i dont think they are "that" fun..... Granted, there would not be a 1 for 1 shift.. i am only attempting to point out the skewed sense of priorities we seem to have in the U.S.

Yup, I was just joking not judging. I think most of us here are like you in that we rent or buy. If not for moral reasons then to get a guaranteed quality source material.

Someone recently turned me on to thepiratebay.com, I haven't downloaded anything, yet. Would probably need a Bluray burner, or a 50 foot hdmi cable. If I did go this route, I'd use it to screen movies to see if I wanted to buy them or not. It might save me money, because I often do some splurge buying, then decide that it wasn't that good of a movie after all. I do use Netflix for this function, but they don't have everything, especially 3D movies I'm interested in, and I only get to view around 2-3 movies a week with them.

Yup, I was just joking not judging. I know murph I think most of us here are like you in that we rent or buy. If not for moral reasons then to get a guaranteed quality source material. I would say, at this point there is a significant difference in quality between the random stuff you can download, and a Blu-ray. In the future, when movies are primarily distributed electronically. Akin to the strait to itunes music, then the quality difference between the "random download" and the pay download will diminish, if not move towards zero. However, there were several studies done with regards to napster. The results of these studies was that a significant amount of people would "download" a song, and the download would lead to them buying the album.. This may not be the same with a movie though, as movies are not as portable as songs. I.E. ipod while jogging ect.... I think it will be interesting to see where things go in the future.

The quality of pirated movies is subpar and compatability with your streaming device is problematic which just doesnt work for try videophiles. I do however copy and compress my movies and stream them with my xbox 360 ,for convenience. I can scroll through and pick somehting ,plus if i change my mind a couple clicks and i can be watching something else.Burning blu ray is cost prohibitive ,but a bd drive to rip is relatively inexpensive. The end of physical media is definetly in sight. In canada rogers closed all its video stores.

I found this thread to be interesting for anyone wanting to build their own AT projection screen.
